You Were Chosen Before You Ever Chose Him

Can I share something with you that changed the way I see my whole walk with God?

Before you ever said yes to Jesus, He had already said yes to you. Long before you knew His name, He already knew yours.

Ephesians 1:4 says it plainly.
“Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.”

Before the foundation of the world. Not after you cleaned up your life. Not after you proved yourself faithful. Before you existed, before sin ever entered the story, God had already chosen you in Christ.

This matters because it changes the reason behind everything else we've been talking about in this series. When Paul later tells us to walk worthy of our calling, he is not asking us to perform well enough to earn a calling we don't yet have. He is asking us to walk in a way that matches a calling that was settled before time began.

So if you've ever wondered whether you were an afterthought, a backup plan, or a name added to the list once you finally got your act together, I want to put that thought to rest. You were chosen first. Grace moved first. Love moved first. Your response was always going to be a response, never the reason.

This is why the gospel is genuinely good news and not just good advice. Good advice tells you what to do to become acceptable. The gospel tells you that you were already accepted in the Beloved (Ephesians 1:6), and now you get to live from that acceptance rather than for it.

So today, rest in this. You did not find God first. He found you first, chose you first, and loved you first. Everything you do from here is simply your response to a love that already had your name on it before the world began.
