Biblically, adoption refers to God's act of welcoming believers into His family, granting them the status of children and heirs, as well as offering them salvation and a new relationship with Him. This new identity also grants them a whole inheritance in God's kingdom. This is a clear demonstration of God's grace to humanity, especially the Gentiles (Rom. 8:14-17). It is disheartening when children from privileged backgrounds live miserably. Therefore, believers should not take their privilege and honour for granted. How is your relationship with your new Father? Cherish your new status, live holy as an obedient child. Do not desire your former sinful life that seeks to please Satan. *REFLECTION:* Be a proud child of your new Father. *PRAYER:* Thank You, Lord, for adopting me. THE SLEEPING BRIDE "I was asleep, but dreaming: The one I love was at the door, knocking and saying: 'My darling, my very own, my flawless dove, open the door for me!'" - Songs of Solomon 5:2 How can a bride sleep when the groom is on the way to fetch her? You understand that this is not possible. The bride says: 'I was dreaming.' The Bride (the Church) is not allowed to sleep today, because we are expecting our Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are happy, we sing and wait. He has not come back yet, but He is on His way. We know that He will come. Some think they have the right to go to sleep, but they are wrong. There is a huge need in this world. The harvest must be brought in. Be awake How can we sleep now? This is impossible. We have to work as long as it is daytime. There is no time to slumber and sleep. This is the message the Church should convey to the children of God. You should also be awake so that He does not come to you like a thief in the night. 'Yes, but I am tired. The fight is too tough. I want to stop!' This is not possible though! It is a matter of life and death. The condition of most Christians The bride from the Songs of Solomon slept while her heart was awake. That is the condition of most Christians today. They are spiritually sleeping, but in their hearts, they do not want to sleep at all because they love the Lord Jesus Christ. The true Christian is not satisfied with a sleeping attitude. The Divine life in you wants to follow the Lord's path and wants to stay awake. 'The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak' (Matthew 26:41). Is your heart awake? I have a question for you: is your heart awake? If so, you cannot be satisfied with being asleep. May our prayers rise to You like incense. We thank You for what this day has brought us—rest, spiritual help, and instruction in divine things. We thank You for the glimpses of truth we’ve received as we’ve read Your word. We’re grateful for the good impulses and desires that have stirred in our hearts. Make us strong to face life’s struggles. Give us more peace and confidence amid the world’s chaos and conflicts. May the holy influences of Sunday stay with us like sweet songs, and may we carry the music of gladness wherever we go in the coming week. He asked that they be set apart for God and shaped by His truth. Sanctification is not about making ourselves look holy before people. It is about belonging to God and being transformed according to His truth. 🔎 WHAT DOES SANCTIFY MEAN? The Greek word hagiazō means to make holy, consecrate, or set apart for a sacred purpose. Throughout Scripture, sanctification is connected to holiness, dedication to God, and separation from what is unholy. To be sanctified is to be set apart for God’s purposes—not to pursue the ways of the world, but to live in obedience to Him. 📖 SANCTIFICATION: SET APART AND MADE HOLY Scripture reveals the work of God in sanctification. 1️⃣ SET APART IN CHRIST Through Jesus Christ, believers are set apart for God. 📖 Hebrews 10:10 (ESV) teaches that we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Our standing before God rests on the finished work of Jesus—not our ability to earn salvation through good works. 2️⃣ GROWING IN HOLINESS Sanctification also involves our ongoing growth in holiness as we follow Jesus. 📖 2 Corinthians 3:18 teaches that we are being transformed into the image of the Lord from one degree of glory to another. The Holy Spirit works in believers, changing their hearts, renewing their minds, and producing spiritual fruit. We do not become perfect overnight. We are called to grow in Christlikeness through faith, obedience, repentance, and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. 3️⃣ COMPLETED IN GOD’S PRESENCE 📖 1 Thessalonians 5:23 speaks of God sanctifying believers completely and preserving them blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s work in His people will reach its fullness according to His purposes. ✨ Our hope is not in our own perfection. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, who saves us and faithfully completes His work in those who belong to Him. 🕊️ DID YOU KNOW? Jesus said: 📖 John 17:19 (ESV): “And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” Jesus did not need purification from sin. He was holy and without sin. He consecrated Himself to the Father’s will and set Himself apart for the mission He came to accomplish. Through His sacrifice, He made the way for sinners to be reconciled to God. ✝️ WHY SANCTIFICATION MATTERS Sanctification reminds us that salvation is not a license to continue living in sin. God calls His people to holiness because they belong to Him. 📖 1 Peter 1:15–16 calls believers to be holy in all their conduct, because God is holy. This does not mean we earn salvation by achieving sinless perfection. It means that genuine faith should lead us toward a life of repentance, obedience, and increasing Christlikeness. Grace does not teach us to embrace sin. God’s grace teaches us to turn from ungodliness and live in a way that honors Him (Titus 2:11–14). 🔥 PUT IT INTO PRACTICE Take a moment to examine your heart before the Lord. 🕊️ What thoughts need to be renewed by God’s Word? 🕊️ What habits are pulling you away from obedience to Christ? 🕊️ Are your relationships helping you grow in holiness? 🕊️ Is there something you need to surrender to God? 🕊️ Are you allowing the Holy Spirit to correct, teach, and transform you? Sanctification is not about pretending to be holy. 📖 DAILY GOSPEL — DAY 17 BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS Joshua 1:9 KJV “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” 🔎 UNDERSTANDING THE WORD There are moments in life when moving forward feels frightening. We face uncertainty. We face difficult decisions. We face responsibilities that seem greater than our abilities. And sometimes we wonder whether we have the strength to continue. In Joshua chapter 1, we find a man facing an enormous responsibility. Moses had died. Joshua had been appointed to lead the children of Israel into the land God had promised them. The road ahead would not be easy. There would be battles. There would be opposition. There would be challenges that Joshua had never faced before. Yet God spoke these powerful words: “Be strong and of a good courage…” Why could Joshua be courageous? Was it because he knew everything that lay ahead? No. Was it because he would never experience difficulty? No. Was it because he was strong enough to accomplish everything by himself? No. His courage was rooted in God's promise: “...for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” God was calling Joshua to trust His presence, His faithfulness and His Word. ✝️ THE GOSPEL There is an important difference between biblical courage and simply believing in ourselves. The world often tells us: “Believe in yourself.” “You are strong enough.” “You can accomplish anything.” But Scripture directs our confidence toward God. Our greatest hope is not found in our own strength. It is found in Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us: “For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.” — Romans 5:6 KJV What a powerful reminder. Christ did not come because humanity was strong enough to save itself. He came because we needed a Saviour. Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again. Through faith in Him, sinners can be forgiven and reconciled to God. Our confidence therefore rests in what Christ has accomplished, not in our ability to make ourselves acceptable to God. And as we follow Him, we continue to depend upon His grace. Jesus told His disciples: “...lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.” — Matthew 28:20 KJV Christ's promise to His disciples reminds us that following Him does not mean walking alone. 🛤️ COURAGE TO OBEY GOD One of the most important parts of Joshua chapter 1 appears just before today's verse. God tells Joshua: “Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law...” — Joshua 1:7 KJV Notice something important. Joshua was not simply being told to be brave. He was being called to obey God's Word. True biblical courage is not recklessness. It is not doing whatever we want and assuming God will support every decision. It is having the courage to do what God says is right. Even when obedience is difficult. Even when others disagree. Even when we are afraid. Even when following God's Word requires sacrifice. Sometimes courage means speaking the truth with love. Sometimes courage means admitting that we were wrong. Sometimes courage means turning away from sin. Sometimes courage means forgiving someone who has hurt us. Sometimes courage means remaining faithful when everyone around us is choosing a different direction. And sometimes courage simply means taking the next step of obedience when we cannot see the entire road ahead. 📖 STRENGTH THROUGH GOD'S WORD God also told Joshua: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night...” — Joshua 1:8 KJV Joshua's courage was connected to knowing and obeying God's Word. That is an important lesson for us today. When fear begins to overwhelm us, we need more than encouraging words. We need the truth of Scripture. God's Word teaches us who He is. It reminds us of His faithfulness. It corrects our thinking. It exposes our sin. And it directs us toward Jesus Christ. Yesterday we considered the peace of God through Christ Jesus. Today we are reminded that faith also calls us to live courageously and obediently. Peace does not mean we will never face difficulties. And courage does not mean we will never feel afraid. It means we can continue trusting the Lord while doing what He has called us to do. Whatever challenge you are facing today, remember: You do not have to know everything about tomorrow to obey God today. Seek Him. Read His Word. Pray for wisdom. Trust His faithfulness. And take the next faithful step. 🙏 PRAYER Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your faithfulness and for the truth of Your Word. You know the situations in my life that make me afraid. You know the responsibilities I carry and the uncertainties I face. Forgive me for the times when fear becomes greater in my thoughts than my trust in You. Teach me to find courage in Your faithfulness rather than in my own abilities. Give me wisdom to recognise what is right. Give me strength to turn away from what is wrong. And give me courage to obey Your Word even when obedience is difficult. Help me to remain faithful to Jesus Christ in my thoughts, words, decisions and actions. When I feel weak, remind me of Your grace. When I feel uncertain, direct me through Your Word. And when I am afraid, teach me to trust You. Don’t worry about what you’re wearing, where you’ve been, what you’ve done, or what people might think of you. You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come to Jesus. Come to Him with a repentant, willing heart and let Him transform your life! Maybe you’ve been running from God. Maybe you’ve been hurt by a church. Maybe it’s been years since you’ve stepped inside a sanctuary. But please hear this: Your past doesn’t have to define your future, and shame doesn’t have to keep you from seeking the Lord. God calls us to repentance, faith, obedience, and a life transformed through Jesus Christ. Don’t let pride, fear, or excuses keep you from seeking Him. You don’t need to have everything figured out.
