In a recent blog, we took an overview of The Beatitudes from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (What's Your Be-Attitude?). We saw that these statements are more than a list of blessings we may receive, but a complete mindset and lifestyle centered on Christ, who is the ultimate source of our blessedness. In this article,

  • **The Book Is Published. Now What?**

Eight editions. Two platforms. Two days.

After months of writing, revising, translating, and publishing my second Mateo book, I thought I might finally have a chance to relax.

Apparently, nobody told my to-do list.

Now there are websites to update, readers to reach, books to promote, and statistics to check.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, Book Three has already begun!

This week's blog is about what happens **after** an author presses Publish—and why finishing a book doesn't necessarily mean the work is finished.

What Values Are Most Important To You? God’s or The World’s?

Every single day, we face a quiet choice about what matters most. We are constantly pulled between two completely different ways of living: the values of God’s Kingdom and the values of the surrounding world. The world tells us that success is measured by how much money we make, how high we climb the ladder, and how much attention we can gather. God’s Word, however, points us toward a completely different horizon. Instead of driving us to chase endless ambition and self-promotion, it invites us into a life of quiet devotion, genuine integrity, and deep love for others. That heavenly perspective shifts our focus from what we can accumulate to who we are becoming in Christ.
When we look at the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20, we see the foundation of God’s value system. These commands are not just rigid rules designed to take the joy out of life; they are a loving blueprint for how to love God and love our neighbors. The world teaches us to put ourselves first, to chase after whatever we want regardless of who it hurts, and to compare our possessions, status, and achievements with everyone around us. In contrast, Exodus 20:15–17 warns us against stealing, lying, and coveting, calling us instead to absolute honesty, integrity, and deep contentment with what we have been given. These commands protect our hearts from the poison of jealousy and safeguard the trust we share with our neighbors. When we learn to celebrate God's provision instead of looking over the fence at what others have, our souls finally find lasting rest.
The New Testament echoes this contrast with striking clarity. In Romans 12:2, the Apostle Paul gives us a vital warning: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” The world prizes pride, self-reliance, and instant gratification. It encourages us to look out only for number one. But God’s values center on humility, patience, self-control, and looking out for the well-being of others. Jesus Himself modeled this upside-down Kingdom when He taught that the greatest among us are those who serve, and that true life is found not in accumulating wealth, but in knowing and loving God.
Choosing God’s values requires intentional effort. It means pausing on a busy day to rest rather than running ourselves ragged for worldly success, just as Exodus 20:8–11 reminds us through the Sabbath. It means honoring our commitments to our families and speaking the truth even when it is difficult. When we align our hearts with God’s standard, we trade the exhausting treadmill of worldly approval for a quiet, unshakable peace. At the end of our lives, the applause of the world will fade away, but the character we built through God’s enduring truth will remain. Temporary titles and fleeting achievements hold no eternal weight when we stand before our Creator. Instead, the quiet acts of faithfulness, the love we showed to our families, and the honesty we practiced in the dark will echo into eternity. That realization frees us to stop performing for a watching world and start living simply for an audience of One.

    Personal Prayer…

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word, which lights my path and shows me what truly matters. I confess that it is far too easy to get caught up in the values of this world, chasing after success, comparison, and temporary comforts. Forgive me for the times I have let worldly pressures crowd out Your eternal truths. Help me to resist the pull of the culture around me and instead anchor my heart in Your unchanging love. Give me the grace to live with integrity, to find deep contentment in Your daily provision, and to put You first in all that I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
THE BIBLE…It’s to be read. It’s to be studied. It’s to be believed. It’s to be lived out everyday!

  • YOUR DAILY DEVOTION AND PRAYER…

    Friday October 9, 2026

    Exodus 20: 15-17
15 "You shall not steal. 16 "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s."

    POINTS OF REFLECTION….

    1. Respect the property and labor of others: The eighth commandment, "You shall not steal," calls us to honor what belongs to our neighbors. It reminds us that everything we have is a gift from God, and we should be honest and fair in all our dealings.
    2. The power of truth and integrity: The ninth commandment forbids giving false testimony against anyone. Honesty builds trust in a community, while dishonesty can deeply hurt innocent people and damage relationships.
    3. Guarding our hearts from envy: The tenth commandment warns against coveting what belongs to someone else. It addresses the hidden desires of the heart, reminding us that constant comparison and jealousy rob us of our joy.
    4. Finding contentment in what God provides: Learning to be satisfied with what we have protects us from unhealthy desires. When we trust that God provides what we need, we can celebrate the blessings of others instead of wishing they were ours.
    5. Treating neighbors with love and respect: These final commandments shift our focus outward to how we treat the people around us. Living honestly, speaking truthfully, and staying content create a safe, peaceful, and caring community for everyone.

    PERSONAL QUESTIONS TO PONDER…

    1. Are there any areas in my daily life or work where my honesty, integrity, or fairness could be improved to better respect what belongs to others?
    2. How well do I practice contentment with what God has given me, rather than letting comparison or a desire for what others have steal my peace?

    CLOSING PRAYER…
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your daily provision and for caring so deeply about how we treat one another. I confess that it is easy to let comparison, envy, or discontentment creep into my heart when I look at what others have. Forgive me for the times my thoughts or actions have not fully honored honesty and fairness. Help me to walk in absolute integrity, speaking truth and respecting the lives and property of those around me. Teach me to be deeply content with the blessings You have given me, trusting that Your provision is always enough. Fill my heart with Your lasting peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

POINT OF APPLICATION. SOMETHING I CAN DO TODAY BASED ON Exodus 20:12-14…
Offer a Sincere Word of Encouragement Take a few quiet minutes today to reach out to your wife, or a family member with a specific message of appreciation. Let them know how much you value them and all they bring to your life. Use that moment to actively build up and protect your closest relationship, intentionally pushing aside any frustration and choosing to speak patience and grace instead.

When I began Book Two of *Mateo and the Secrets of the Eternal Word*, I wanted Mateo to do more than watch biblical history unfold.

So I gave him a job caring for camels in Abraham's caravan.

Fortunately, he has Suri to teach him.

Unfortunately, he also has Jamil—a camel with very definite opinions!

This week's *Behind the Story* takes us to Haran, where Mateo discovers that living in Bible history is quite different from simply witnessing it.
