- We continue our Bible study today, looking at one of the last I AM statements that Jesus Christ made in the book of John 11. We have looked at 6 so far, and we started looking at the last bold statement in the book of John, where Christ revealed Himself.
I Am the Resurrection and the Life
We have explained and understood "I Am" to be a covenant name of God, directly echoing Exodus 3:14- I Am who I Am
By saying this, Jesus claims deity, not just speaking for God but as God Himself, He is that same God in the Old Testament
Therefore, every I Am in John is a revelation of divine identity
#Sproul said, "Jesus is not just giving mere metaphors; He was claiming to be Yahweh, the self-existent God."
We also looked at the meaning of the Resurrection.
Who is the Resurrection- Jesus, by saying this we see that it is not just a future event, but it is Him, the one that was standing there, the Eternal Life(Everlasting Life), the Umuyayaya(Bemba translation for Everlasting Life), its verlasting Life in His person (He is the embodiment), the perfect description of Life, it is not just in His power to give life, He is Life
When does the Resurrection happen? It begins now, and immediately through union with Christ (John 5:24)
Therefore, the Resurrection is not just something He does, it is very much also what He is.
We have looked at Life
Jesus is the source of both spiritual and eternal life. Without Jesus, you can't have true life (John 14:6)
This life is not just being in existence- it is being in communion/fellowship with Christ, with God
And today we continue to study further and look at the rest of John 11:25-27
Whoever believes in me, what does that mean?
Though he dies, yet shall he live? What does Christ mean by this
We are going through this Bible study with the brothers and sisters at Ndola Baptist Church, on the Copperbelt, Ndola, Zambia, and if you are around, feel free to join. Bible study begins at 8:30
