  • Cornerstone's history and meaning
The concept of a cornerstone originates from ancient architecture, where it referred to the first stone laid in the construction of a building, determining its alignment and stability. In biblical contexts, the cornerstone symbolizes strength, foundational stability, and the significance of Jesus Christ in the faith.
    Biblical Significance:
    - Jesus as the Cornerstone: Jesus is identified as the cornerstone in the New Testament, emphasizing His central role in unifying and guiding believers (Ephesians 2:20).
    - Foundation of Faith: A cornerstone represents the foundational aspect of faith, signifying stability and strength in one's spiritual life.
    - Unity and Community: The cornerstone also represents unity within the body of believers, connecting diverse individuals into a cohesive community of faith ¹ ² ³.
    Key Bible Verses:
    - Psalm 118:22: "The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone."
    - Isaiah 28:16: "God lays a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation."
    - Ephesians 2:20: "The church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone."
    - 1 Peter 2:6: Jesus is "the chosen and precious cornerstone." ¹
    Practical Applications:
    - Establish daily spiritual practices, such as prayer and scripture study, to strengthen your faith foundation.
    - Seek community support and engage with a faith community to reinforce your spiritual structure.
    - Reflect on core values and align your life with biblical teachings to deepen your faith ¹.

  • But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. Deuteronomy 4:29, NIV
Lord our God, we seek your face and long to find you. May we find you as your people found you in times past when you drew near with many signs and miracles. May our hearts come before you in awe and trust and draw their strength from you. May many in our time seek you and receive your comfort and help, for you provide strength and courage for the poor and destitute, for the suffering and the dying. Do not let our age pass by in vain, O great and almighty God. A new time must surely come, a new day must be born from this present age. This is your will, and in your will we trust. Amen.

  • For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.” Romans 10:1-11 RSV.

  • The Gift of Friendship Friendship is one of the greatest gifts a human being can receive. It is a bond beyond common goals, common interests, or common histories. It is a bond stronger than sexual union can create, deeper than a shared fate can solidify, and it can be even more intimate than the bonds of marriage or community. Friendship is being with the other in joy and sorrow, even when we cannot increase the joy or decrease the sorrow. It is a unity of souls that gives nobility and sincerity to love. Friendship makes all of life shine brightly. Blessed are those who lay down their lives for their friends.

  • Patience is a hard discipline. It is not just waiting until something happens over which we have no control: the arrival of the bus, the end of the rain, the return of a friend, the resolution of a conflict. Patience is not a waiting passivity until someone else does something. Patience asks us to live the moment to the fullest, to be completely present to the moment, to taste the here and now, to be where we are. When we are impatient we try to get away from where we are. We behave as if the real thing will happen tomorrow, later and somewhere else. Let’s be patient and trust that the treasure we look for is hidden in the ground on which we stand.

  • The Kingdom comes in the Presence of the Spirit of God. IT WAS HIS PRESENCE those listening to Jesus give the Sermon on the Mount detected, and it was His Presence they longed for. For them it didn’t matter if He was doing miracles or just giving another sermon, they just had to be where He was. Hunger humbles. Hunger for God brings about the ultimate humility. And He exalted them at the proper time (see 1 Peter 5:6) with a taste of His dominion. The Sermon on the Mount is a treatise on the Kingdom. In it, Jesus reveals the attitudes that help His followers to access His unseen world. As citizens of heaven, these attitudes are formed in us that we might fully apprehend all that His Kingdom has available. The Beatitudes are actually the “lenses” that the Kingdom is seen through. Repentance involves taking on the mind of Christ revealed in these verses. He could have put it this way: This is how the repentant mind looks.

  • Prayer
I have been designed to see my family, my city, and my world change to look more and more like God’s Kingdom. Help me, Holy Spirit, to see where You’re inviting me to partner with You to see heaven come to earth.

  • The focus of repentance is to change our way of thinking until the presence of His Kingdom fills our consciousness. The enemy’s attempt to anchor our affections to the things that are visible is easily resisted when our hearts are aware of the presence of His world. Such awareness aids us in the task of being co-laborers (see 1 Corinthians 3:9) with Christ—destroying the works of the devil. (See 1 John 3:8.) Daily Scripture Reading 1 JOHN 3:1-8 Prayer I want to turn from anything that does not fill me with Your life-giving presence, Lord.
