  • Don’t Add to God’s Word — His Truth Is Pure and Complete!

In the book of Job, Job’s friends tried to explain his suffering with ideas that sounded wise. But they added their assumptions about God’s ways — and God rebuked them:

    > Job 42:7 (KJV)
Ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

Their error? They added human reasoning to divine truth and misrepresented God.
We risk the same when we add ideas to God’s Word — as if it isn’t pure, powerful, and complete.

Matthew 6:33 — Seek first the kingdom

    KJV:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    ESV:
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

    TLV:
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

    NIV:
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

    ⚠ AMP:
But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.

    ⚠ TPT:
So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.

    True meaning:
    His righteousness = Christ Himself

    > “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness...” (1 Cor 1:30 KJV)
“That we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Cor 5:21 KJV)

John 10:10 — The abundant life

    KJV:
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

    ESV:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

    TLV:
The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly.

    NIV:
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

    ⚠ AMP:
That they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].

    ⚠ TPT:
To give you everything in abundance, more than you expect—life in its fullness until you overflow!

    True meaning:
This refers to eternal life in Christ, not material riches.

    > “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” (John 17:3 KJV)

Galatians 6:7 — Reap what you sow

    KJV:
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

    ESV:
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.

    TLV:
Do not be deceived—God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also shall reap.

    NIV:
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

    ⚠ AMP:
God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scorned]...

    ⚠ TPT:
What you plant will always be the very thing you harvest.

True meaning of God is not mocked:
The Greek means you cannot fool or outwit God — not about God being worried about ridicule, but that He sees through deception.

    > Hebrews 4:13 (KJV)
All things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

    > Jeremiah 17:10 (KJV)
I the Lord search the heart... to give every man according to his ways.

God’s warnings about adding to His Word

    > Deuteronomy 4:2 (KJV)
Ye shall not add unto the word... neither shall ye diminish ought from it...

    > Proverbs 30:5-6 (KJV)
Every word of God is pure... Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

    > Revelation 22:18-19 (KJV)
If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues...

    Final reminder

God’s Word is pure, complete, and powerful.
We don’t need to add embellishments like plan, overflowing life, or moral commentary.
Seek Christ our righteousness and the eternal abundant life He gives.
