- PROVERB OF THE DAY
(Proverbs 7)
1. My son, keep my words,
And treasure my commands within you.
2. Keep my commands and live,
And my law as the apple of your eye.
3. Bind them on your fingers;
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,”
And call understanding your nearest kin,
5. That they may keep you from the immoral woman,
From the seductress who flatters with her words.
6. For at the window of my house
I looked through my lattice,
7. And saw among the simple,
I perceived among the youths,
A young man devoid of understanding,
8. Passing along the street near her corner;
And he took the path to her house
9. In the twilight, in the evening,
In the black and dark night.
10. And there a woman met him,
With the attire of a harlot, and a crafty heart.
11. She was loud and rebellious,
Her feet would not stay at home.
12. At times she was outside, at times in the open square,
Lurking at every corner.
13. So she caught him and kissed him;
With an impudent face she said to him:
14. “I have peace offerings with me;
Today I have paid my vows.
15. So I came out to meet you,
Diligently to seek your face,
And I have found you.
16. I have spread my bed with tapestry,
Colored coverings of Egyptian linen.
17. I have perfumed my bed
With myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18. Come, let us take our fill of love until morning;
Let us delight ourselves with love.
19. For my husband is not at home;
He has gone on a long journey;
20. He has taken a bag of money with him,
And will come home on the appointed day.”
21. With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
With her flattering lips she seduced him.
22. Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,
Or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,
23. Till an arrow struck his liver.
As a bird hastens to the snare,
He did not know it would cost his life.
24. Now therefore, listen to me, my children;
Pay attention to the words of my mouth:
25. Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways,
Do not stray into her paths;
26. For she has cast down many wounded,
And all who were slain by her were strong men.
27. Her house is the way to hell,
Descending to the chambers of death0 Comments 0 Shares 127 Views

- Hebrews 13:1 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.
Today we get a different Greek version of love. This verse uses the Greek philadelphia. This form of love is characterized by warm, family-like affection for others. We are all members of the same spiritual family and we should love one another the same way we have experienced love in our earthly, biological families.
The author of Hebrews, whoever he might have been, begins his final exhortations with this verse, emphasizing the love we should have for our fellow believers. We are to cultivate a familial love for one another. Our love should be ongoing and active. We should be continuously offering sacrificial love to others. And this sacrificial love is not the same as agape love, but is just as important. Just as a parent sacrifices something for themselves to ensure their child receives what is needed instead, we should be willing to make sacrifices for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
This verse is also the foundation for the remaining verses that follow it. Love is the foundation of all further commands and instructions given. It shows us just how important love was in the early church and serves as a model for how we should act today. We, too, should be loving others, showing hospitality, remembering those who are imprisoned, etc.
We also need to understand that this type of love is not temporary or circumstantial. It is meant to be ongoing and lasting. We continue to show love for one another, even when they upset you. We know that all families have struggles and disagreements periodically, but their love remains even when they don’t necessarily like each other. The same is true for us and our fellow believers.
Do you show brotherly love to your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ? Do you love them with the same type of love that is presented in this verse? Take some time today to evaluate your interactions with other believers. Consider how you might be able to extend Philadelphia-like love to those you come in contact with this week.

- Ephesians 5:2 …and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Today we get a lesson in walking in the way of love. It is among many lessons that we will have this month that give us the chance to explore how we can love others. So what does it mean to walk in love?
Paul calls believers to walk in love by actively imitating Christ’s sacrificial, unconditional love. It defines Christian living as an ongoing action based on Jesus’s willingness to give everything for others. It implies a lifestyle or continuous, habitual action—not just a fleeting feeling we experience all willy nilly.
He goes on to tell us HOW we can walk in love consistently. Christians are challenged to move beyond cautious love to a more extravagant love that does not seek personal gain, but rather gives of itself for others. We love others just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us. It highlights His sacrifice on the cross, showing that real love requires selflessness and suffering. He gave His life on the cross so that we could live out His commands and love others.
Paul uses terminology that describes this love as a sweet-smelling aroma that pleases God. Our actions, our behaviors, our demonstration of love - all of our actions towards others become a form of worship. And from that, God is pleased. He finds pleasure in our obedience to His Word and His commands. It is a sweet-smelling aroma to Him.
Paul instructs believers to base their interactions on Jesus’s sacrifice, treating others with the same selfless, sacrificial love that He demonstrated. Are you doing that currently? Are you showing them selfless love or making sacrifices for them? That is what you and I have been called to. We must set aside all selfishness and follow His example, loving sacrificially and wholly.
