Ephesians 4:26–27 The enemy looks for opportunities, but he cannot easily gain access where our hearts are guarded by God's truth and love. > "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8 3. Be Spiritually Sensitive God has already given us powerful tools to protect our walls: Joy Peace Righteousness Love Kindness Humility A forgiving heart > "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." Romans 14:17 > "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance." Galatians 5:22–23 When we neglect these gifts, we often blame the devil for battles that began with unguarded hearts. While spiritual warfare is real, many victories begin by allowing the Holy Spirit to shape our character. Protect Your Relationships You cannot genuinely pursue intimacy with God while intentionally neglecting your relationships with people. > "If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar." 1 John 4:20 > "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14 As much as it depends on you, pursue peace. > "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." Romans 12:18 If someone tells you that you have hurt them, don't become defensive immediately. Listen with humility. If an explanation is needed, give it with love. If an apology is needed, offer it sincerely. Sometimes, "I'm sorry" does not reduce your dignity, it reflects the humility of Christ and helps restore what could have been broken. > "With all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, forbearing one another in love." Ephesians 4:2 Keep Your Heart Tender Do not harden your heart or pretend nothing happened when someone lovingly expresses that they have been hurt. > "Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts." Hebrews 3:15 Kind words heal. Gentle responses restore. Humility keeps relationships alive. > "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger." Proverbs 15:1 > "Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones." Proverbs 16:24 Sometimes, your willingness to apologize may become the very testimony that preserves another person's faith and encourages them to keep trusting God. Let Your Worship Match Your Character Our prayers, worship, and service become even more beautiful when they are accompanied by love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. > "First be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift." Matthew 5:23–24 A heart that is quick to forgive and quick to seek peace shines brightly before God and before people. > "Forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Ephesians 4:32 Remember Your Witness People may first encounter Jesus through your attitude before they ever hear your message. Our words may introduce Christ, but our character often confirms Him. > "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 Christianity is not merely about appearing spiritual; it is about allowing the life of Jesus Christ to be seen through us so that God is glorified and people are drawn closer to Him. > "He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." 1 John 2:6 Walk in Humility There are moments when we may believe someone has offended us, only to discover that we were actually the ones who caused the hurt. Humility gives us the courage to examine ourselves honestly. Pride seeks to be justified; love seeks restoration. > "God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble." James 4:6 > "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." Philippians 2:3 May we always choose reconciliation over being right, peace over pride, and grace over resentment. My Birthday Prayer As I celebrate another year today, my prayer is not only that God blesses me, but that He helps every one of us build strong walls of love, humility, peace, righteousness, joy, and Christlike character. May our lives become safe places where God is honored and people experience His love through us. > "Now the God of peace... make you perfect in every good work to do his will."
