- I RENTED AN APARTMENT IN A DEN OF CHAINSMOKERS
I have often wondered how Lot who knew exactly what Sodom was known for, was suddenly found in Sodom months after but right now I think I understand better how he got himself there.
He saw the beautiful field but he didn't look beyond that to see Sodom and how there was a possibility of him moving there, especially at the time that he did.
For months I have searched for a house within my budget and yes, I did pray but I think I was so in haste that I didn't wait and it didn't help that I didn't have much time to do so because I was occupied with going to lectures in school, fellowship and other things that needed my attention.
Don't get me wrong, I took time out to go see the options presented by the agents but I was more intentional about something within my budget and manageable till the next year as I had the plan to get a better place because the best option for houses had been taken at the time when I had the money to pay for one and so, I just needed a place to stay till I could gather funds as well as meet up with the next session when houses will be available- student environment wahala.
Eventually, I got a place, power and water supply were good which were the top factors, and security was good too- it is a secure place and most importantly, it fit into my budget so I paid.
That is the major or so I thought
I had ticked all the boxes of all I thought were the necessities but I didn't look within.
I didn't notice that as one who tends to be restless and panic whenever in a noisy area, the place was filled with tenants who were non-students- young bachelors who are always so noisy- loud music, endless chatters and partying.
And that's not all
They are smokers -chain-smokers I’d say and my apartment is situated right in the middle of them all!
That is a major problem for I choke at the smell of cigarettes - so yes, it is always so unconducive being in my room
I'm always choking, I can't sleep
And the question ‘how did I not notice this?’ is one I ask myself every time sleeping gets difficult or after choking and yea, you guessed right - it's almost every single hour of my time at home.
This experience has made me ask myself how much trouble I had gotten myself into due to haste
And it's funny how even writing this, I recalled how i felt reluctant to pay for this place, how another agent had told me to wait for her and I felt the nudge to but I didn't, how my bank app suddenly acted when I tried to make payments and I had to get someone to transfer it.
I had asked God to help me find a place but I didn't wait and even the times He stepped in, I still found my way around doing what I wanted
And it makes me wonder How many times I had failed to obey simply because I was in a haste.
I did notice how much in haste I always have been- it's like I tend to set a dead line for every single thing- like I am my own pressure and I know the Holy spirit had pointed it out severally but this experience just brought me to see how terrible it is and how costly it can be.
Yes, I'm bearing the consequences
And yes, with His help I'm learning
But then again I'm sharing for you who feel like you're out of time,
Look beyond
I know there's been a time limit and it seems you're the only one yet to catch up,
I know it looks like if you don't get to make that decision now, everything will crash, I know if you don't give in now, it might be as though you've lost the greatest opportunities for it but look beyond that timing, that situation, that decision- for there's a lot more after that and it is what matters.
Friend, look beyond
And yeah, it’s a call to wait even when it is difficult to, wait knowing the one whom you wait on or that which you wait on for.
