- The Battle Belongs to the Lord
Scripture
1 Samuel 17:47 (NKJV)
Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear for the battle is the Lord's and He will give you into our hands
Faith That Faces Giants
1 Samuel chapter 17 tells the well known story of David and Goliath. The Philistine army had gathered for battle against Israel, and their champion Goliath stepped forward each day to challenge the Israelites. Goliath was a giant warrior, heavily armed and intimidating. For forty days he mocked Israel and defied the armies of the living God.
The soldiers of Israel, including King Saul, were filled with fear. No one was willing to face Goliath. The giant appeared too strong, too experienced, and too powerful to defeat.
Into this situation came David, a young shepherd who had been sent by his father Jesse to bring food to his brothers on the battlefield. When David heard Goliath’s challenge, he was troubled not by the giant’s size but by the fact that the Philistine was defying the living God.
David’s perspective was different from everyone else’s. While others saw an impossible enemy, David saw an opportunity for God to display His power. David remembered how the Lord had delivered him from the lion and the bear while protecting his sheep. Because of those past experiences, he trusted that God would also deliver him from Goliath.
When David stepped onto the battlefield, he did not rely on armor, weapons, or human strength. Armed with a sling and five smooth stones, David declared that the battle belonged to the Lord. His confidence was not in himself but in God.
With one stone David struck Goliath, and the giant fell. God gave victory through a young shepherd who trusted Him completely.
For believers today, 1 Samuel 17 reminds us that we will face challenges that appear overwhelming. These giants may be fears, obstacles, opposition, or trials that seem too great for us to overcome. Yet the lesson of this chapter is clear: victory does not come through human strength but through trusting God.
When we face our giants with faith, remembering God’s past faithfulness, we can move forward with confidence that the battle truly belongs to the Lord.
Reflection Questions
1. What giants or challenges am I currently facing in my life
2. Do I focus more on the size of the problem or on the power of God
3. How can remembering God’s past faithfulness strengthen my faith today
Prayer
Lord God thank You that the battles I face are not mine alone but belong to You. Help me to trust in Your power rather than my own strength. When I face challenges that seem overwhelming, remind me that You are greater than every obstacle. Strengthen my faith and give me courage to stand firm in Your promises. In Jesus name Amen.0 Comments 0 Shares 21 Views -
