HEAVEN IS PREPARED FOR PREPARED PEOPLE

THE INTRODUCTION:
In John 14:1–6, Jesus comforted His disciples before His departure by assuring them that He was going to prepare a place for them in His Father's house. This promise reveals that heaven is a real place prepared by Christ for those who are ready to meet Him. While heaven is prepared by Jesus, believers must also prepare their hearts and lives through faith, obedience, and holy living. Therefore, heaven is prepared for prepared people.

1. HEAVEN IS A PREPARED PLACE.
Key Verse: John 14:2 – "I go to prepare a place for you."
Jesus personally promised to prepare an eternal home for His followers. Heaven is not imaginary; it is a real and glorious dwelling place designed by God.

Sub-point: Christ's Preparation Demonstrates His Love.

Jesus' preparation of heaven shows His deep love and concern for believers. He desires that His people spend eternity with Him.

2. PREPARED PEOPLE KEEP THEIR FOCUS ON CHRIST.
Key Verse: John 14:1 – "Believe in God; believe also in me."
The journey to heaven begins with genuine faith in Jesus Christ. Trusting Him as Savior and Lord is the foundation of eternal life.

Sub-point: Faith Removes Fear and Uncertainty

Those who trust Christ can face life's challenges and even death with confidence because their future is secure in Him.

3. PREPARED PEOPLE LIVE IN OBEDIENCE TO GOD.
Key Verse: John 14:6 – "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
Following Christ involves more than believing; it requires daily obedience to His teachings and submission to His will.

Sub-point: Holy Living Reflects Readiness for Heaven

A life characterized by righteousness, integrity, and devotion to God demonstrates spiritual preparedness for eternity.

4. PREPARED PEOPLE FOLLOW the ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN.
Key Verse: John 14:6 – "No one comes to the Father except through me."
Jesus clearly declared Himself as the only way to the Father. Salvation cannot be found through human effort, religion, or good works alone.

Sub-point: Accepting Christ Is Essential

Every person must personally receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior to enter the heavenly home He has prepared.

THE CONCLUSION.
Jesus has already prepared a place in heaven for His followers, but only those who are spiritually prepared will enter it. Preparation involves trusting Christ, obeying His Word, living a holy life, and following Him as the only way to the Father. The question is not whether heaven is prepared—it is. The real question is whether we are prepared for heaven.

3. Are there areas of disobedience that I need to surrender to God?

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”

The Introduction:
God never designed us to live or grow alone. From the beginning, He said, “It is not good that man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18).

In our spiritual journey, relationships are not optional—they are essential. This proverb teaches that just as iron sharpens iron, believers are called to sharpen one another for growth, strength, and effectiveness.

1. We Need Each Other for Spiritual Growth.
No one grows strong in isolation. Christianity is not a solo journey; it is a fellowship.
God uses people to teach, encourage, and shape us.

Hebrews 10:24-25 – “Consider one another… not forsaking the assembling…”
Ecclesiastes 4:9 – “Two are better than one…”
Stay connected to the body of Christ—church, fellowship, and godly friendships.

2. True Friends Bring Correction and Improvement.
Real sharpening involves correction. Sharpening creates friction—it is not always comfortable.
A true friend tells you the truth, even when it hurts.

Proverbs 27:6 – “Faithful are the wounds of a friend…”
Galatians 6:1 – Restore one another in meekness
Welcome godly correction; don’t reject those God uses to refine you.

3. Accountability Strengthens Our Walk with God.
We grow stronger when someone is watching and guiding. Accountability keeps us focused and disciplined. It prevents spiritual drift and compromise.

James 5:16 – “Confess your faults one to another…”
Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “A threefold cord is not quickly broken”
Have someone in your life who can ask you hard questions and pray with you.

4. Sharpening is Mutual, Not One-Sided.
We are both sharpeners and those being sharpened.
Everyone has something to give and receive.
You are not just called to be helped—you are called to help others grow.

Romans 1:12 – “That I may be comforted together with you…”
1 Thessalonians 5:11 – “Edify one another”

Be intentional about encouraging, mentoring, and uplifting others.
5. God Uses Relationships to Refine Our Character.
People are instruments of God’s refining process.
Through relationships, God develops patience, humility, and love.
Even difficult people can sharpen us.

James 1:2-4 – Trials produce maturity
Proverbs 17:17 – “A friend loveth at all times”

Don’t run from relationships—learn what God is teaching you through them.

TOPIC:
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SERVE THE LORD?

Bible Text: Joshua 24:15 — “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

INTRODUCTION
Serving the Lord is more than attending church or participating in religious activities. It is a lifestyle of love, obedience, and commitment to God. Every believer is called to serve God faithfully with their heart, time, gifts, and resources.

1. SERVING THE LORD MEANS LOVING AND OBEYING HIM:

Bible Text: John 14:15
True service begins with obedience to God's Word.
Genuine love for God is demonstrated through obedience.
We serve Him not out of duty alone, but out of love and gratitude.

II. SERVING THE LORD MEANS USING OUR GIFTS FOR HIS GLORY:

Bible Text: 1 Peter 4:10
Every believer has a role in promoting God's kingdom.
God has given each person gifts and abilities to bless others.
Serving God includes using our talents to advance His work and help people; not for some personal gains.

3. SERVING THE LORD MEANS REMAINING FAITHFUL UNTIL THE END:

Bible Text: Matthew 24:13 Faithful service requires perseverance.
Challenges and difficulties will come, but believers must remain committed.
God rewards those who faithfully serve Him throughout their lives.

Serving the Lord means loving Him, obeying His commands, using our gifts for His glory, and remaining faithful through every season of life. A life devoted to God brings purpose, joy, and eternal reward. As believers, we should daily ask ourselves how we can honor and serve the Lord more effectively.

CLOSING VERSES:
Colossians 3:23 — “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”

Matthew 7:21-22
21. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Be Careful

Don't let your hearts be loaded down with the cares of this life to the point that you forget about God. We've considered, and will again, the end of the world and our end, but one question we might ask ourselves is which would you prefer? Would you rather be still alive at the end of the world, or die first?

It's an interesting question! I think I would prefer to meet death on its own terms and wait for the end of the world from above not from here. I guess that as much as I believe that the world to come is the better part, I'm not ready to say that my grandchildren and great-grandchildren shouldn't experience what this life has to offer.

I'm sure that my family isn't going to like losing me, but I don't want to watch any more of them die before me! But, that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be careful and work to follow God's path of love just in case. The image of a snare is interesting to me.

It makes me think of a trap. I had to check out a couple of other translations to see if the same image is used in them. The Contemporary English Version and the New American Bible both say "trap" so I guess I was on the right track.

Personally, I don't feel like being caught in a trap, so that's an added incentive for me to live each day as if it could be my last, no matter which way it goes. What about you?
