  • 1 LORD, e'en to death Thy love could go,
    A death of shame and loss,
    To vanquish for us every foe,
    And break the strong man's force.

    2 Oh! what a load was Thine to bear
    Alone in that dark hour,
    Our sins in all their terror there,
    God's wrath and Satan's power!

    3 The storm that bowed Thy blessed head
    Is hushed for ever now,
    And rest divine is ours instead,
    Whilst glory crowns Thy brow.

    4 Within the Father's house on high,
    We soon shall sing Thy praise;
    But here, where Thou didst bleed and die,
    We learn that song to raise.

    (H L Rossier, translated Miss C A Wellesley)

  • FRUITFUL?
    This years Saul perhaps is next years Paul...

    He (Jesus Christ) also spoke this parable:
    “A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none.
    Then he said to the keeper, “Look, for three years I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree and found none.
    Cut it down; why does it use up the ground?” But he answered and said to him, “Sir, let it alone this year also,
    until I dig around it and fertilize it. And if it bears fruit, well. But if not, after that, you can cut it down.”
    (Luke’s Gospel 13:6-9)

  • 1 MASTER, we would no longer be
    At home in that which hated Thee,
    But patient in Thy footsteps go,
    Thy sorrow as Thy joy to know.
    We would - and O confirm the power -
    With meekness meet the darkest hour,
    By shame, contempt, however tried,
    For Thou wast scorned and crucified.

    2 We welcome still Thy faithful word,
    The cross shall meet its sure reward;
    For soon must pass the little while,
    Then joy shall crown Thy servants' toil;
    And we shall hear Thee, Saviour, say,
    "Arise, my love, and come away;
    Look up, for thou shalt weep no more,
    But rest on heaven's eternal shore."

  • CHRISTMAS WAS GOOD, BUT ...

    Concerning the current financial situation of our nation, a previous Bank of England governor was quoted as saying “Christmas was good, but we won’t know how good until Easter.”
    Infinitely better applied to the birth, life, death and resurrection of the only Saviour of sinners, from our deserved eternal punishment! The eternal Son of God, The Lord Jesus Christ, who made that greatest stoop of all, leaving His Father's side in Heaven, where all was light and love, to enter this dark and sinful world, becoming flesh on that first Christmas.
    For thirty three years, Jesus Christ lived the only perfect holy, sinless life, becoming the only One who was ever willing and able to be that wholly acceptable sacrifice for the sins, once for all.
    At Easter, He laid down His life, made sin for mankind's sin, and His perfect sacrifice was fully accepted by His Father, rising triumphant from His grave after three days, just as He said he would. Conquering those great enemies sin, death and Hell!
    Dear visitor, through Jesus Christ alone you can accept this full and free forgiveness of your sin problem.
    Please do so TODAY, while there is still time. You will never regret having The Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, and knowing the peace and joy of your sins forever washed away through His precious cleansing blood that was shed on The Cross for you.
    Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

    Have a blessed Easter one and all!

  • THE GARDENER KNOWS BEST

    “A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps”
    (Proverbs 16:9)

    “… Remember, too, that everything that happens to believers is working for their present and lasting good. “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” If you could have chosen your own circumstances and condition in life, you could not have made so wise a choice as God has made for you.
    The gardener knows where his plants will flourish best. Some of them might wish to grow in the sunshine, although like the fern family, they are better in the shade. Some of them would prefer to be on yonder mossy bank, but the gardener puts them in sandy soil because he knows that it is better suited to the requirements of their nature.
    You may depend upon it that there never was any earthly father who was so attentive to the needs of his child as your heavenly Father is to yours. When you decide as to the occupation you think is best for your son to follow, you may select the very career that will prove to be his ruin—but when God plans your future, He takes more care in arranging for you than you do in arranging for your boy, and as He sees the end from the beginning—which you cannot see either for yourself or for your child—He chooses for you with infinite and unerring wisdom.
    Do not wish to have it otherwise, dear brother or sister in Christ. Be not only content with such things as you have, but say with David, “The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage … ”
    (C H Spurgeon)

  • THE UPS AND DOWNS

    Without doubt it is pretty amazing that man has the abilities to rocket UP, land men on the Moon and safely return them.

    Also rocket UP into the stratosphere above Earth, setting up a “space station” and remaining there for such long period of time, like our fellow Brit Tim Peake did in 2016.

    Even sending UP equipment to precisely land exploration crafts on Mars and photograph other planets etc.

    However, by far the most wonderful and awesome fact concerns someone who came in the complete opposite direction - DOWN!

    The One who was Creator of all things (John’s Gospel 1:3),
    the sustainer of the entire universe (Hebrews 1:3),
    Jesus Christ, the Eternal Son of God, who ever dwelt in His Father’s bosom (John’s Gospel 1:18)
    came DOWN from the highest heights of glory, into a dark, sin – ridden world, became flesh, fully Man, yet fully God,in order to live a perfect sinless life, that He was then able and willing to lay down that sinless body and die, as the only perfect acceptable sacrifice for our personal sins and the sins of the whole world!

    A price that none of us could ever pay.

    He shed His life's blood, taking our own deserved punishment on The Cross, during those hours of darkness which covered the whole Earth in the daytime.

    Yes, The Creator came, was born of a virgin (Luke 1:26 - 38) and died for His fallen creature man!! What immeasurable love, grace and mercy!

    God came DOWN and walked on Earth!

    However, the best part is, Jesus Christ did not stay DOWN, His work of salvation completed, He rose from the grave and ascended back UP to His Father, having conquered sin, death and Hell to prepare an eternal home with Him, for whosoever repents and believes His Gospel! (Ephesians 4:9&10)

    “But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.
    Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ … “
