Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
Well this morning was an experiment for this post.
Once upon a time I would choose a scripture then expound on it with a story. I do the flip side of that now…story then search for the scripture that best fits. As I said, this morning was an experiment morning of times past.
Randomly I opened my bible, and this is where I landed:
*You have made your bed on a high and lofty hill; there you went up to offer your sacrifices. Behind your doors and your doorposts you have put your pagan symbols. Forsaking me, you uncovered your bed, you climbed into it and opened wide; you made a pact with those whose beds you love, and you looked on their nakedness. – Isaiah 57:7-8*
Of all the multitudes of places that my randomizing fingers could land, it was here. Then from the two pages of verses, my eyes landed here.
The first concept that comes to mind is …. Oh Wow…SOCIETY today.
However…I have a separate thought here…
*Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? – Matthew 7:3*
Before we can examine society’s wrongs, we must first look at our selves and the areas in which we must improve our representation of the One who saved us.
The first of the scriptures, we all at some point have placed ourselves on a lofty hill. Many times we do not realize that we have done just that. We are so enamored with the King, we hard press forward to spread His news; not realizing that the enemy has beaten us to the peak of this person or that and our enthusiasm is shown as haughtiness and lofty. Many times this presentation is just that… a public demonstration because in our homes…where others cannot see … are all the things that we put before God … but for us it is okay…just not them. Because we are saved by grace and they are not.
Unfortunately, this is true in so many ways.
Which brings us to the humbling verse in Matthew. How dare I tell you to quit smoking because it is bad for your health, yet I drink energy drinks? How dare I tell you to be more giving of your time, yet I could not be bothered to fill in for Brother Jim as a greeter when he hurt his knee? How dare I get on here and teach or share a message of building, love, and forgiveness and then go to work and become frustrated on the drop of a dime?
Most of us can flip through the bible and find a passage that best fits our desired zing. Often however, the verse that we find is the zing that puts us back in our place for our own actions. I know this to be very true.
So my experiment today reminded myself I need to search my inner self for those things that I am trying to hide away that are not righteous for me from Him. That when I go correct or speak with someone, I need to first check my heart and make sure it is for the Love of righteousness in His name or is it a zing. It makes a difference.
This weekend is supposed to be rather nice. Remember that there are those who will only see the darkness that surrounds them, take a moment and be that ray of Light we have all been called to be.
Be blessed today my friends.
