RIVERS IN THE DESERT
From the book 'Unusual Blessings in Unpredictable Place'. By Rev. Ishmael Asare Bakae
Scripture Foundation:
"Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert."
— Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)

Introduction
Deserts are dry, lifeless, and seemingly hopeless. Yet God promises to do the impossible by causing rivers—symbols of refreshing, life, and abundance—to flow through them. This is divine contradiction: when others see barrenness, God sees a place for miracles.
Key Insights
1. God Specializes in New Things
He is not limited by environmental constraints. He can break protocols, disrupt patterns, and shift atmospheres to release something unprecedented in your life.
2. The Desert is Not Final
It may seem like the end, but it is a setup for divine turnaround. The presence of a desert does not cancel God’s power—it magnifies it.
3. Rivers Represent Continuous Flow
God doesn’t just give drops of blessings—He initiates a flow. In an unpredictable place, He can establish a system of unending supply.
4. The Blessing is Often Hidden in Dry Ground
Like Isaac who sowed in the land of famine and reaped a hundredfold (Genesis 26), your obedience in the desert can unlock supernatural increase.
5. New Seasons Require New Vision
You must perceive the move of God. If you remain stuck in the old, you may miss the river springing forth in the new.
Biblical Example: Hagar
In Genesis 21, Hagar wandered in the wilderness with her dying son. Yet, God opened her eyes to see a well of water. The water had been there, but until God revealed it, she remained hopeless. Your provision may already be present—you need divine perception to access it.
Reflection
What if the most fruitful part of your life is about to emerge from the driest chapter? Can you trust God to bring streams of hope, provision, and power in your wilderness?
5 Prayer Points
1. O Lord, open my eyes to see the rivers You have prepared for me in dry places.
Scripture: Genesis 21:19
2. Father, let every desert situation in my life be turned into a testimony of abundance.
Scripture: Isaiah 35:1
3. I command every dryness in my spiritual, financial, and emotional life to be replaced by rivers of divine flow.
Scripture: John 7:38
4. God of new beginnings, do a new thing in my life that will shock my enemies and glorify Your name.
Scripture: Isaiah 43:19
5. Lord, establish divine systems of supply and provision in the places others have written off.
Scripture: Psalm 23:5
Prophetic Declaration:
I decree: My desert shall blossom! Where there was emptiness, there shall be overflow. God is making a way where there was none. I receive rivers of abundance, healing, provision, and joy in every dry and barren area of my life!
