ATTITUDE (32) By BBJohn
Reciprocity in human relationships is the attitude number twenty first. It is a golden rule that says: "treat others as you will want to be treated." How you relate with and treat others dictate what you get in return. In relationships, we will always come to the place of harvest to reap exactly what we planted; where life returns to us what we give out to others.
Always consider reciprocity in human relationships in the way you treat people. Always have in mind the impact of your words and actions on others. This will help you not to do to others what you won’t like others to do to you.
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” {Matthew 6: 12}
In other words, life is a two-way street. It is give and receive. Never treat others the way you won't like to be treated. So, character is a seed. If you sow positive attitude, you will reap positive attitude. The kind of seed you sow into people's life is the same seed people will sow into your own life.
Love, joy, mercy, help, hope, respect, loyalty, kindness, and honesty are positive seeds. (Galatians 5: 21-22) On the other hand, hate, pride, rudeness, oppression, bitterness, cheating, unkindness, unforgiving, and ignominy are negative seeds. (Galatians 5: 19-20)
He who treats others with negative attitude will also receive negative treatments from people. And vice versa. If you want to receive mercy, favor and fairness, you must learn to give the same to people. Know that forgiveness and kindness will only come your way if you give it to people. This is the golden rule! Obey it always.
Treating others as you want to be treated is a principle of ethics in interpersonal relationships and a moral compass for peaceful coexistence in any society. We all need to live by this golden principle.
He who wants positive attitude from people must first give the same to others. But, if we should meet people with negative attitude, let us know that the same will come back to us in harvest measures. For life has a way of giving back to everyone of us what we give out to others.
"Cast your bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. (Ecclesiastes 11:1)
Brethren, the reality of our relationship with God shows in the way we treat people and relate with them. The choice is ours. We choose to give love or hate. What we receive from others is dictated by what we give to people.
