Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.
If I am being honest this morning, I am not confident coffee is going to be enough. I am very tired. Last night I had my first zoom meeting with this new contest that I have entered. The idea is to write a novella (20-45k words)/novel (50k plus) story in 90 days, fully edited and ready for publication. I joined the one last year but then did nothing with it for various reasons/excuses. This year I decided that the worst thing that can come of this is that I do not complete it. However, the best thing can be that I learn how to finish a book in short order.
With this competition, they have four teams. Planner: those who outline and plan their story in meticulous order. Plantster: those who sort of plan and shoot from the hip in combination form. Pantser (me): those who sit down and start writing and just watch the story unfold and create itself. Then there is the fourth group … Confused: they are not sure where they fit in, but they want to do the challenge.
Each group has a team leader/coach. Each lead is there to guide and constructively critique if asked. They are there to encourage and keep us on track to finish our project.
With this contest, with over 1000 participants, I have the opportunity to interact with other authors from various backgrounds and levels and skill. I am able to network and build a community that will presumably assist in my growth. I believe that this is the format in which that God has sent me to tighten up some of my skills.
One of the reasons/excuses I did not participate last year was … you ready for this … haha … I did not want to take on a world view of His story. My precept was that if I take criticism from professionals, they will want to lead me to write the way they do or think, instead of me writing what God wants me to write. After all, the disciples were not educated and look at what they provided for us. (Yes, that was my mindset.)
However, almost in every turn, I have writing scenarios, classes, and potential opportunities at my every turn. I believe that He is giving me my color crayon painted rainbow map for His desires for my path. So, I have concluded that this is a necessary step for me to take. One of the items that I learned last night was that I needed to announce my project so that I won’t lose interest … because when others know, they are curious and will ask about the progress. So…here goes …
I am going to draft a novella/novel in 90 days with the intention of being ready to publish by the first of September. Concept for my story came to me in back-to-back Sunday sermons. I have put the first 300 words to page and am eager to get the time to continue. In this group that I am, I have already learned new techniques to try and am eager to see what else there is.
As a general rule, we all ask God to ‘show’ us what he wants from us. However, when He does….we think it is a trap. (Tell me I am wrong… haha). Today I am stepping out in faith that this story line is completely in him and for him. This is but the first of many lessons that He is presenting me with so that this can be my pastime once I retire.
What is He laying before you that you are can see clearly, but are afraid?
Be blessed today my friends.
***I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. –1 John 5:13-14
