Sorry If the Church Ever Hurt You — That Was the People, Not God
Sometimes, people walk away from church not because they stopped believing in God, but because they were hurt by others in the church. If that’s your story, we want to say: we’re sorry. Truly sorry. The pain you felt was real, and it should never have happened.
But it’s important to understand this — it was people who hurt you, not God.
The church is made up of human beings, and humans are not perfect. Even in a place meant for love, grace, and truth, people can still make mistakes. Some may act out of pride, ignorance, or selfishness. Others might have had good intentions but caused harm through their words or actions. Whatever the case, that hurt did not come from God.
God is loving, kind, faithful, and just. He invites us into a relationship with Him that is personal and unshakable. Don’t let the wrongs of people rob you of the peace and joy that come from knowing God. He never fails.
So instead of walking away from faith, walk closer to God. Serve Him not because of people, but in spite of them. And as you do that, be wise. Set healthy boundaries. Don’t put yourself back in the same places or relationships where hurt might happen again. Love and forgiveness are essential, but so is wisdom.
You were made to walk with God — not just follow people.
So, if you’ve been hurt by the church, we say again: we’re sorry. But please don’t give up on God. He hasn’t given up on you.
