ATTITUDE (34) By BBJohn

Vigilance is the twenty third attitude. Jesus taught us to be on guard against false prophets. It's important to beware of false apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, and evangelists. But the question is: 'Who are they and how do we know them so that we may be careful of them?

IDENTITY OF FALSE PROPHETS

False prophets are deceptive people who may appear beautiful and harmless outwardly. They are the so-called men of God who are dangerous on the inside but may look good, righteous, and holy on the outward. This is what Jesus meant when He called them "ravenous wolves in sheep's clothing."

"They are ravenous wolves who come to you disguised in sheep clothing." (Matt. 7:15; Acts 20:29)

So, learn not to be deceived by the outward appearances of any man of God. Rather, patiently keep studying them until the Holy Spirit unveils their hidden intentions to you. Their hidden intentions are often self-centered, inimical and destructive. It takes prayer and patience to uncover the hidden intentions of "ravenous wolves"

False prophets are people of negative characters. They are bad trees bearing evil fruits and are meant for the fireplace. Even men of God who failed to bear good fruits shall be cut down and cast into the fire. That’s the fate, the end, of every false man of God.

“Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down and cast into the fire.” {Matt. 7: 19}

Therefore, we must be on our guard lest we become victims of these evil men. Beware of ravenous wolves and bad trees, even when they appear religious and holy outwardly.

HOW TO KNOW FALSE MEN OF GOD

1). You can know false prophets by their fruit. The types of fruit they produce speak volume of their personality. Jesus said 'a tree is known by its fruit'. While good trees bring forth good fruits, bad trees produce bad fruits. It's clear that good trees cannot bear evil and corrupt tree cannot bear good fruits. False men of God are evil men that cannot bear good fruits.

"By their fruit you shall know them". {Matt. 7: 20}

They are unregenerate men of God; unsaved people with no true encounter with Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are evil people with no fear of God in them. They run ministry to serve Satan and feed their own flesh.

2). You can know false teachers and prophets by their negative behaviors and character. Unlike true prophets of God, false prophets do not bear the fruit of the Spirit and fruit of righteousness. Instead of giving the fruit divine love, all they give you is carnal lusts, works of the fresh, and fruit of corruption. (Gal. 5: 22 - 23; Phil. 1: 11; James 3: 18 cp. Matt. 12: 33 - 37; Gal. 5: 19 - 21)

3). We can know them by operation of the spiritual gift of discernment. By the mighty working of the Holy Spirit in us, we can discern the kinds of spirit(s) at work in them. Discerning of spirits is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit Apostle Paul encourages us to desire. We all need it to distinguish spirits at work in men. {1 Corinthians 12: 10; 1 John 4: 1}

Therefore, don't be a victim of false and fake men of God. Always take your time to prayerfully and patiently study men of God.
