Prayer: Guide our thoughts and understanding, through the help of the Holy Ghost, O'Lord we have prayed.
My ponder:
How can I find the strength to truly change? I’m discouraged because I try really hard to do better, but I just keep making the same mistakes.
Change is a very difficult task for many people, like a behavioural practice or norm. It could be as a result of belief, society influence, peer pressure, and regulatory policies all impact an individual's strong will to change.
Finding the strength for true change requires self-reflection, a focus on small steps, and building a strong support system. It's okay to feel discouraged, the journey of personal growth is often challenging, especially without Christ Jesus gospel guidance.
However, I remember, once in a while after reading the scriptures and praying, small improvements add up over time with faith and confidence. In order to build that strength for change, I sometimes focus on the principles of repentance, ensuring it is forcibly visible in my heart, and mind.
That comes with following the doctrines of Our Saviour Jesus Christ. That is when repentance and trust in his forgiveness can be truly sustained.
Take the example of the young Alma for a scenario.
Alma the Younger actively tried to destroy the Savior’s Church. As they were engaged in this evil work, an angel of the Lord appeared to them and warned Alma to stop what he was doing or he would be “cast off” (Mosiah 27:16). Overwhelmed by this experience, Alma could not speak or move. The sons of Mosiah carried Alma the Younger to his father and explained what had happened. (See Mosiah 27:8–20.)
According to the words of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles observed the following about the Lord’s pivotal role in our repentance:
"Christ is the power behind all repentance"
Alma Young, had been touched by the teaching of his Father Alma Senior, yet he didn't fully comprehend until the Anger of the Angel stroked him.
The young man must have really been so gubsmacked beyond his wildest dreams and imagination. The next thoughts must, run riot within him for burning desire for forgiveness.
In such circumstances, repentance must be firmly ingrained inside of him, and those cohort who wanted to destroy the house of God.
The gospel, Mosiah 27:35 Book of Mormon
buttresses the fact "and they traveled throughout all the land of Zarahemla, and among all the people who were under the reign of king Mosiah, zealously striving to repair all the injuries which they had done to the church, confessing all their sins, and publishing all the things which they had seen, and explaining the prophecies and the scriptures to all who desired to hear them.
It's not only good to seek repentance, but seeking the forgiveness through the power of the Holy Ghost, so as to make it permanent and not returning to the old state of sin.
