1 Samuel 16:4-13 HB Ancient And Samuel did as the LORD had commanded him, and came to Bethlehem of Judah. And the elders of the town went out to meet him, and said, Is your coming peaceable?
And he said, Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to the LORD; sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
And when they were come, he looked to Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed is like him.
But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for I do not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass begore Samuel. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.
Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, Neither has the LORD chosen this one.
And Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, The LORD has not chosen these.
And Samuel said to Jesse, Are these all the sons you have? And he said to him, There remains yet the youngest, and, behold, he is tending the sheep. And Samuel said to Jesse, Send and bring him here; for I will not leave till he comes here.
And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with beautiful eyes, and very handsome. And the LORD said to Samuel, Arise, anoint him; for this is he.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel rose up and went to Ramtha to his house.
