HOW TO KNOW YOUR CHURCH (OR YOU) HAVE BECOME RELIGIOUS INSTEAD OF SPIRITUAL By Pst. Kamanja There’s a dangerous shift that can happen slowly… subtly… silently. You begin in the Spirit—but somewhere along the way, you drift into religion. Paul warned us in Galatians 3:3 — “Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?” Religion wears the mask of godliness—but it lacks power. It keeps people busy with church activity, but far from true intimacy with Jesus. Here are signs your church—or you—may have become religious instead of spiritual: 🔹 There’s more emphasis on appearance than heart transformation. 🔹 The Holy Spirit is boxed out for the sake of "order." 🔹 There’s a form of godliness, but no fire (2 Timothy 3:5). 🔹 Sermons are safe and motivational—but never confront sin. 🔹 Worship becomes polished performances—not passionate surrender. 🔹 People know the doctrine—but not the Deliverer. 🔹 Titles are more celebrated than the presence of God. 🔹 Prayer altars are dry. Evangelism is absent. Revival is just a word. 🔹 You follow church traditions but have lost your first love. Religion will make you a worker. The Spirit will make you a worshiper. You can preach and still be spiritually empty. You can serve and still be disconnected. You can go to church and never truly encounter God. God is calling His Church back to the place of encounter. Back to hunger. Back to truth. Back to the Holy Spirit. Don’t be satisfied with routine. Long for revival. Long for fire. Long for God.
