HOW MUCH DO YOU PRAY IN THE SPIRIT
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all - 1 Corinthians 14:18
The apostle Paul spoke in other tongues more than the entire Corinthian Church. This explains why he walked in such revelation knowledge, in such wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Jude 1:20 says, ‘But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit.’ When you pray in the Holy Ghost, you build yourself up. You continually make progress in life. You rise like an edifice, a large imposing building. You rise higher and higher. This is what praying in tongues gives you as a Christian. Praying in the Spirit is by far the most important prayer you can ever pray. Many Christians don’t know this. That’s because they don’t understand what praying in tongues means. If they did, they would be like the apostle Paul, they would speak in other tongues all the time.
1 Corinthians 14:15 says, ‘What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.’ There’s a difference between praying in the Spirit and praying in the natural. When you pray in other tongues, your spirit is praying, but your soul or your understanding is unfruitful. Inasmuch as those are the two options, they are not the equal. That’s why the apostle Paul calls praying in understanding as the ‘also.’ Praying in understanding was never intended to be our main form of prayer. Many love to pray long and elaborate prayers where they show off their knowledge of scripture. They love to quote verses from Genesis to Revelation in prayer. Good as that is, you’re still praying in understanding. You’re still yielding to the limitations of your soul. However, when we pray in other tongues, it’s as the Spirit gives us utterance. We therefore pray what the Spirit wills.
More than that, when you pray in other tongues, it’s your spirit that prays. You’re a spirit, you possess a soul, and you live in a physical body. When you pray in other tongues, the real you is praying. God is a Spirit, and when you speak in other tongues, you’re communicating spirit to Spirit. It’s the Spirit of God giving your spirit utterance for you to speak to God, who is a Spirit. Your communication with God in other tongues cannot be overemphasised. The realm of the Spirit is far quicker than the realm of the natural. In the natural, one has to be taught a natural language over time. However, in the Spirit, God gives your spirit utterance by His Spirit. He gives you a full language that you can begin to speak immediately without any training. When we speak in other tongues, we’re transported to a dimension where things happen at the speed of the Spirit. When we speak in other tongues, solutions to long-standing problems are made available. Strategies to battles that have raged for generations are given. Victories to warfare that’s been raging for donkey years are delivered. That’s why you have to be like the apostle Paul and speak in other tongues more than those around you. This is how you tower above your peers. This is how you soar above your generation. This is how you make progress. This is how you rise like an edifice, higher and higher. Glory to God!
CONFESSION
As I pray in the Spirit, I make progress in life. I rise higher and higher, making progress in every area of my life. Glory to God!
