DON’T SIN AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS. FIGHT AND WIN THROUGH PRAYER
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak - Matthew 26:41
We all get tempted with sin, but we don’t have to fall. God has already given us all the tools to live above temptation. When we’re tempted with sin, our first reaction should be to pray. Even though our spirit wants to serve God, our flesh is still rebellious, it’s not born again. As a result, we must deal with our bodies. 1 Corinthians 9:27 says, ‘But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.’ The apostle Paul was tempted just as we are, however, he kept his body under. And the Lord’s prescribed method of dealing with our bodies is prayer. You’ll never grow in the Spirit until you learn to pray through your darkest moments. God loves you, and He doesn’t enjoy seeing you fall each time you’re tempted. That’s why when you pray in that moment of weakness, He strengthens you.
1 Corinthians 10:13 says, ‘There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.’ No matter how harsh the temptation might be, it’s still within the authorised limits of what Satan is allowed. He’s not allowed to tempt you beyond what you or anyone else can bear. However, you need to know what to do, otherwise temptation will overtake you. No matter what you’re struggling with, take it to the Lord in prayer. Don’t just sit there and allow Satan to tempt you with sin. Instead of falling and afterwards asking for forgiveness, rather draw strength from God in prayer during your temptation so that you don’t fall altogether.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says, ‘(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.’ We’re engaged in spiritual warfare with Satan and his principalities. However, we’ve been endued with spiritual weapons that are far superior to theirs. Prayer is one of those weapons. Instead of falling and asking for forgiveness afterwards, you must fight. Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold of eternal life. Satan wants to defeat you with sin so that when the Lord returns, you’ll be counted amongst the wicked. He wants you to lose eternal life and go to hell and the lake of fire. But as you wield your weapon of prayer, you can take every thought captive. You can bring it to the obedience of Christ. Even if that sin has become a stronghold in your life, you can demolish it through prayer. God wants us to live holy lives in this world, without which, no man shall see the Lord. But to be victorious in battle, we must pray so that we don’t fall into temptation. I see you winning every battle you’re facing. I see you walk in victory over the enemy. I see God keep you from falling until the day of Christ Jesus. Glory to God!
