"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus..." Philippians 2:3-5

Carole and I raise chickens. One thing I've noticed about them is the pecking order. When new chickens join the flock, the older ones enforce their dominance, making sure they eat first, drink first, and claim their space before allowing the younger ones to have anything. It’s their way of proving who’s in charge.

Sound familiar?

We humans tend to fall into the same pattern. We look out for ourselves first! We want to make sure our needs, our desires, and our priorities are taken care of before considering others. But Philippians 2:3-4 challenges us to do nothing out of selfish ambition, but instead to value others above ourselves.

Jesus didn’t demand first place, He humbled Himself, served others, and sacrificed for us. What would happen if we lived the same way? What if, instead of pushing ahead to make sure we have that "me first" attitude, we stepped back and showed love, kindness, and generosity?

We were created in God's image! We aren't to be like chickens! Let’s break free from the pecking order mentality and embrace the heart of Christ—where humility, service, and love come first.

Have a great day, and as always, let others see Jesus in you!
