Let the Spirit Grow the Fruit

Scripture
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
— Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV)

What defines your character? Is it your circumstances, your feelings, or the Holy Spirit working inside you?

In Galatians 5:22–23, Paul lists the evidence of a life led by the Holy Spirit. These qualities—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—aren’t achieved by human effort alone. They are the fruit of the Spirit, meaning they are produced in us when we stay connected to Him.

The fruit of the Spirit is not a “pick and choose” list—it’s a unified whole. It reflects Christ’s character, and when we walk with Him daily, His Spirit cultivates these qualities in our lives like fruit growing from a healthy tree.

You don’t have to force it. You just have to abide. Stay rooted in God’s Word. Stay in prayer. Stay in surrender.

And here’s the beautiful truth: There’s no law against these things. No one can stop love. No system can suppress true joy. No rule can cancel peace. The world may try to dim your light—but the fruit of the Spirit grows where He dwells.

Reflection Questions

1. Which fruit of the Spirit do I need to grow in most today?

2. Am I trying to produce spiritual fruit on my own—or am I relying on the Holy Spirit?

3. How can I cultivate more time in God’s presence so the fruit can grow?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, I need You. I can’t bear good fruit on my own. I surrender my heart to You today. Grow in me what pleases the Father. Where there is anger, grow love. Where there is stress, grow peace. Where there is weariness, grow joy. Make me more like Jesus. In His name I pray, Amen.
