Peter and John were financially broke. They had followed Jesus for three years and had received the fullness of the Holy Spirit, but they did not have much in the way of material goods. They had no way of helping the paralyzed man with what he thought he needed most--financial independence.
But they understood what the man really needed. The paralyzed man needed both spiritual and physical wholeness. So instead of trying to give the man what he requested, which they didn't have, Jesus' disciples gave the man what he needed most--and this overflowed from what they did have. In Jesus' name they healed him both physically and spiritually.
In our world today there's a need for institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. But what the world needs most is spiritual and physical salvation through the name of Jesus Christ.
Can you become a powerful witness who is concerned not only about the social plight of the world but also about the spiritual bankruptcy that underlies social injustice? Let's help the poor, but as we do, let's not forget about their souls. Let us give to our neighbor the most important gift we have: salvation in Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before you today to lift up our neighbors who are in need. You have called us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and we pray that you will open our eyes to their physical needs. May we see the hungry, the sick, and the struggling among us with compassion and a desire to help.

But along with their physical needs, Lord, we ask that you also give us insight into their spiritual needs. Help us to understand their hearts and the struggles they face. Give us wisdom and discernment to know how to share your good news with them and point them to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We ask that you equip us to be good stewards of your love and resources. May we be your hands and feet in meeting the needs of our neighbors, both physically and spiritually. May your love and mercy be evident in our words and actions as we seek to share your love and truth with those around us.

We pray for open doors and receptive hearts as we reach out to our neighbors with the message of salvation. And we trust in your power to transform lives and bring hope to those who are lost and broken.

Lord, may your kingdom come and your will be done as we follow your command to serve and care for one another. Help us to be patient and understanding, to listen actively, and to respond with kindness. Strengthen our resolve to be advocates for justice and peace in our community.

As we walk alongside our neighbors, may we be filled with your Spirit, empowering us to act boldly yet humbly. Let our actions reflect your love, bringing comfort to the weary and hope to the hopeless. We pray that through our efforts, many will come to know you and experience the joy and peace that comes from a relationship with you.

Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your work in the world. May we always seek to glorify your name in all that we do.
