Song of Solomon 2:15 – “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards...”
This morning, I was trying to focus—praying, thinking, preparing—and I kept getting interrupted… by a bug. Just a tiny little thing flying circles in my office like it owned the place. It wasn’t dangerous. It didn’t bite or sting. But it wouldn’t quit buzzing. And before I knew it, this minuscule speck had stolen my attention.
It reminded me of how easy it is for small things to steal our spiritual focus, too.
Not the big, obvious sins—but the subtle distractions. A worry that won’t quiet down. A bit of bitterness buzzing in the background. Little annoyances that nibble away at our peace, our worship, our readiness to hear from God.
The Bible warns us about “the little foxes that spoil the vineyard.” Not bears. Not lions. Little things. That means we need to be on guard—not just against the thunderclaps, but the tiny distractions that seem harmless… yet buzz loud enough to drown out the voice of God.
May we be people who swat at the spiritual gnats and keep our eyes fixed on the One who matters most.
