I definitely have my own speculation of whom I believe Mystery Babylon is, but here’s 17 very important clues to her identity and the timing of her destruction in Revelation chapters 17-18:
𝟏. Mystery Babylon is referred to as the great whore that sits upon many waters, and a “she”. Also referred to as the “great city” which reigns over the kings of the earth (rules over the world). Revelation 17:1, 2, 18
Personally, I believe she’s bigger than just a city, but a Nation.
𝟐. She spread her abominations and fornication (sin) around the nation’s of the world and corrupted them (made them drunk in her sin). Revelation 17:2, 4, 5
(Leading the world in sins like pornography, abortion, homosexuality, sex trafficking, and idolatry)
𝟑. She’s a superpower of the world. Revelation 17:3, 18
𝟒. She’s been made rich and lives in luxury and delicious delicacies. Revelation 17:4, 18:3, 7 (speculatively, she may be in trillions of dollars of debt)
𝟓. She will be held responsible for the murdering of many people, saints, and martyrs of Jesus. Revelation 17:6, 18:24
(I believe the mass slaughter of more than 63 million aborted babies since 1973 are included in this)
𝟔. Everyone who’s alive on the earth during Babylons destruction and partakes of it is not part of the true church of Christ, the Bride. That means the rapture happens BEFORE Babylons demise. During this time people will behold the beast (Antichrist), “They that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.”
Revelation 17:8, 18:4
𝟕. She rides a blasphemous beast, the Antichrist, whom the left behind world will marvel at, Rev.17:8, with 7 heads and 10 horns. The 7 heads represent 7 mountains (I believe are the 7 continents, representing every nation, tribe, and tongue) and the 10 horns represent 10 kings (world leaders) which will already be in place when the Antichrist (little horn) arises and he takes their power, subdues 3 of them, controls them, and uses them to rule the world for 1 hour (the entire 7 year tribulation). Revelation 17:1, 3, 7-18
Note: This is the same “hour” that the bride of Christ will be rescued from in Revelation 3:10, 18:4
Note: The great harlot (Mystery Babylon) is destroyed BEFORE the Antichrist (little horn) comes on the scene and takes the power from the 10 kings for 1 hour (7 years). Revelation 17:8
𝟖. After Babylons destruction, she will become a habitation of devils, a prison for demons, and a cage for every unclean and hateful bird. Revelation 18:2
𝟗. All the other nations of the world have partaken in her sin and the merchants of the world have become rich off the abundance of her luxury and delicacies. She’s extremely prideful and gluttonous, and has sinfully glorified herself. Revelation 18:3, 7
