When the People You Are Pastoring Do Not Have Your Time, They Can Never Check You

One of the silent frustrations in ministry is when the people God has called you to serve begin to drift in attention and honor. No matter how anointed or sincere a shepherd may be, if the sheep do not make time for the shepherd, they will never truly receive from him. You cannot correct or guide those who don’t acknowledge your presence or value your voice.

Ministry thrives on relationship and trust. If those you pastor are too distracted, too busy, or too indifferent to give you their time, your words will carry no weight in their lives. It is dangerous to pastor people who won’t listen, who won’t show up, who won’t even check on the one praying and laboring for their souls.

Paul told the Galatians, "Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16). Sometimes the lack of response from the people is not because the leader has failed, but because the people have closed their hearts and schedules to what God is doing through him.

If they cannot give you time, they cannot give you trust. And if they cannot give you trust, they will not give you attention — and without attention, your ministry over their lives becomes powerless.

Pray for a people whose hearts are open. And pray also for wisdom to know when to release what is holy and when to stop casting pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6).
