WHEN LOYALTY IS TESTED – SURVIVING OFFENSE AND DELAY
From the book: The Power of Loyalty by Rev. Ishmael Asare Bakae

Loyalty is not fully known until it is tested. It’s easy to stay committed when things are going well, when doors are opening, and when promises are being fulfilled. But what happens when the vision delays, offenses arise, or your loyalty is not reciprocated? True loyalty is not measured in comfort but in crisis. It is proven in the furnace of delay, misunderstanding, and pain.
Loyalty When Promises Are Delayed
One of the fiercest tests of loyalty comes when God’s promises seem delayed. When you’ve prayed, obeyed, served faithfully—and yet, the breakthrough hasn’t come. The temptation is to walk away, complain, or even compromise. But those who endure delay without detour prove their hearts before God.
David was anointed king but waited over a decade before sitting on the throne. Joseph dreamt of rulership but went through betrayal, slavery, and prison before the dream was fulfilled. Their loyalty was tested—but they did not quit. They stayed true to God and to the assignments entrusted to them.
“But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials.”
— Luke 22:28 (NKJV)
These were the words of Jesus to His disciples—not in a moment of glory, but at the brink of the cross. Loyalty shines when results are absent. Those who stay with God through delay will dine with Him in destiny.
Remaining True When Misunderstood
Another major test of loyalty is misunderstanding. When people misinterpret your motives, when leaders misjudge your heart, or when your sincerity is questioned—it hurts deeply. This is the moment many choose offense over faithfulness.
Job’s story is a powerful example. In his worst moment, his wife told him to curse God and die:
“Then his wife said to him, ‘Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!’ But he said to her, ‘You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?’”
— Job 2:9–10 (NKJV)
Job refused to turn his back on God—even when he couldn’t understand why he was suffering. That is loyalty at its highest—holding on when nothing makes sense.
Misunderstanding can come from those closest to you, just as Jesus was betrayed by one of His own. But your response determines your destiny. The loyal heart chooses to forgive, to endure, and to continue.
Faithfulness During Hard Seasons
Hard seasons are unavoidable in the life of a believer. These are the moments when your commitment will be stretched. Will you remain faithful when there is no applause, when your name is forgotten, or when your labor feels in vain?
Faithfulness is not about being seen—it’s about being rooted. Trees don’t grow taller during the storm, but they grow deeper. Likewise, loyalty grows deep in the dark—where roots of character, integrity, and patience are formed.
Many people abort their season of promotion because they walk away too soon. They allow offense, delay, or hardship to break their covenant with God and with others. But those who remain will reap the reward:
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
— Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
Every season of testing has an expiration date. The question is—will you still be standing when the sun rises again?
Reflection
• Have you allowed offense or delay to weaken your loyalty?
• Are you still faithful when no one notices or affirms you?
• Can God trust you to remain committed even in the dark?
🏽 Prayer Points
1. Lord, help me remain loyal when Your promises seem delayed.
(Luke 22:28)
2. Father, give me the grace to stay true even when misunderstood or wrongfully judged.
3. Holy Spirit, strengthen me to be faithful through every season of testing.
4. Lord, deliver me from offense and empower me to walk in unwavering commitment.
5. God, let my loyalty in adversity qualify me for greater responsibility and reward.
(Job 2:9–10)
