The First Promise of Victory

Scripture

> “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”
— Genesis 3:15 (NKJV)

“The Promise in the Curse”

Genesis 3:15 is spoken in the middle of the world’s first great tragedy—the fall of man. Adam and Eve have disobeyed God, sin has entered the world, and consequences are being declared. But right in the middle of judgment, God makes a promise.

It’s a promise that the serpent—Satan—will not have the last word.

God says that from the woman’s seed (a reference to Jesus Christ), One will come who will crush the serpent’s head. Satan will strike His heel—a picture of Christ’s suffering on the cross—but Jesus will deliver the final blow.

This is the first glimpse of the Gospel—right in Genesis 3. Before the law, before the prophets, before the cross—God promised redemption.

It reminds us:

Even in our worst moments, God is already working a plan for salvation.

The enemy may bruise, but Jesus will conquer.

The battle may be fierce, but the victory has already been declared.

-Reflection Questions

1. How does it strengthen my faith to know God promised victory from the very beginning?

2. Am I living like someone who is already on the winning side through Jesus?

3. What area of my life feels like a “bruise” right now—and how can I trust God with it?

Prayer

Father God, thank You for speaking hope in the middle of humanity’s failure. Thank You that from the very beginning, You had a plan to crush the enemy and redeem my life. Help me to walk in that victory today. Even when life wounds me, remind me that Jesus has already won the war. In His mighty name, Amen.
