We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
— 2 Corinthians 4:18
Thought Of The Day...
Maybe you have had some great times with family and friends, with delicious food to enjoy, and perhaps even a sunny, blue sky overhead, a soft breeze blowing, and the world radiating God’s glory in creation.
Times like that can give us a peek at what we mean when we say, with the Apostles’ Creed, “I believe in . . . the life everlasting.”
Even so, our fleeting moments of joy in this life pale in comparison to the eternal joy we can look forward to in Christ.
Yet this we know with certainty: one day, we will stand before God’s throne with Jesus, surrounded by countless sisters and brothers from around the world, completely freed from all fears, and filled with perfect peace and joy (Revelation 7). There we will be fully doing what we were created for: “to glorify God and enjoy him forever” (Westminster Catechism).
Until that time, we may have only fleeting glimpses of our ultimate destiny—and those moments may come in the midst of struggles, challenges, and sometimes even utter defeat. But we are encouraged not to despair in the midst of hard times but to wait with hope for the day when Jesus will be all and all, when his kingdom will come in power and glory.
Prayer...
Heavenly Father, As we gather to pray today, we are reminded of the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:18, "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." We thank you for this reminder that our earthly life is temporary and our hope lies in the eternal life that you have promised us through your son, Jesus Christ.
We pray that your Holy Spirit will guide us and strengthen us to keep our focus on you and your kingdom, rather than being consumed by the temporary things of this world. Help us to see with spiritual eyes and hold fast to the eternal hope that is found in your unfailing love for us.
Lord, we ask for your grace and wisdom as we serve you in this world. May our deeds be a reflection of your love and may they bring glory to your name. Guide us to be agents of your love, mercy, and grace in every situation and wherever we are placed.
We pray that you will keep us united as your body, the church, and help us to stand strong in faith and hope, even in the face of adversity. Give us boldness and courage to share your Gospel with those around us, and may our lives be a testament to your goodness and faithfulness.
Help us to be compassionate and understanding, reaching out to those who are hurting, lost, or in need. May we be instruments of peace in a world filled with chaos and division, demonstrating the love of Christ through our actions and words.
Lord, we lift up our prayers for those who are struggling, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Please bring healing, comfort, and hope to them. Let them feel your presence and know they are not alone in their battles.
Thank you for your unending grace and mercy. We trust in your plan for our lives, knowing that you work all things together for good for those who love you.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
