CHRIST IS AMONG HIS GATHERED PEOPLE

[15] “If your brother or sister sins, go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over.

[16] But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’

[17] If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

[18] “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

[19] “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

[20] For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

An adage says, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."

Today's passage offers guidance on resolving conflicts within the Christian community. Jesus teaches that when a brother or sister sins against us, we should address the matter privately and seek reconciliation. If the issue persists, we should involve two or three witnesses to help bring clarity and a balanced perspective. Jesus also assures that where His people are gathered in His name, He is present among them. This passage emphasises the importance of unity and the power of Christ's presence when His people come together.

We are reminded of Christ's promise that He will be present among His people whenever they gather in His name. When we gather in Christ's name, His presence is felt. As proof that we belong to Christ, we must be quick to forgive, slow to take offence, and eager to pursue reconciliation with other believers. In the journey of faith, we are not meant to walk alone; we are called to be part of a community of believers where Christ's presence dwells among us. As we gather together in love, we find strength and support to go far in our spiritual journey.
