Good morning to everyone. Grace and peace be with you.

I am big fan of Little House on the Prairie. I used to watch it every day as kid and now it is my go-to for relaxing or just clean television. I have watch it so often that I know which episode it is within the first minute or so of the start. That show touched on so many social injustices and worldly problems…from drug abuse (two different episodes), alcoholism, child abuse, rape, social shunning, bigotry, gossip, divisions in the community, family tragedy from loss, etc. The list is endless. Many of these were touched in different ways throughout the show’s history. Showing that world is very much here…but it has been overcome, and we do not have to be a statistic if we choose not to be.

As I was going through some of my church notes this morning I ran across this note: Rescuing children rob them from learning a lesson from God.

*Rescuing children rob them from learning a lesson from God.*

Let that set in for a moment.

Each generation is guilty of ‘rescuing’ when failure should have be the outcome. It is inherently our biggest flaw. Each set of parents, regardless of how they were raised, does not want to see their kids suffer. It is heart wrenching. Though each generation puts on a good show for being strict, we all want to see our kids be the best and have everything. Or at least more than we did.

Because of the flaw, we become like helicopter parents and hover trying to keep them from being hurt and or getting into trouble. We are willing to do whatever it takes to protect them…even when protection is not what they need, they need the lesson.

Like in yesterday’s post I compared our walk to riding a bicycle, today is a continuation of that thought. In that, in order to ride a bike, you must have failures in order to have successes. And even after you succeed, there are still going to be obstacles for you to navigate … thus more failures.
One of the best lessons in Little House is that those who were accountable for an injustice were held accountable. One episode, a character labeled a German immigrant family as ignorant and illiterate because their English was spotty at best. In the church service the main character called out this one and asked her to read the opening passage for the sermon. Pompously she strutted up to do so, only to find that the bible was in German. A language she could not read. Thus, calling out her sinful nature against another parishioner. (held accountable)

One episode, a child was caught stealing and tried to hide it. Ultimately when the truth came out, the father issued the appropriate punishment in the woodshed. Though the mother tried to shield her son as a lesson learned, the son acknowledged that the discipline would make him feel better. (held accountable)

However, that is not always the case today. (I am guilty) We want out kids to learn the lesson of ‘love’ by showing them that we will take the heat for them. That does not work. When we continuously take the heat, as it were, we demonstrate that they never have to face the consequences of their actions…thus depriving them of the lesson from God.

*Rescuing our children rob them from learning a lesson from God.*

Another note in my church notes is “It is more important that they learn to trust God, than it is for me to be accepted by them.” That is a hard lesson to learn as well. We want our kids to like us, but we need to be more diligent in making sure that they know AND trust God.

Today I bless you with a beautiful day of sunshine and rays of Light. Today I bless you with peace of mind and a heart of Love. Today I bless you with Wisdom and Knowledge.

Be blessed today my friends.
