Worshiping the Beast, Part 2

The three angels’ messages are “the everlasting gospel” (Revelation 14:6), the good news of salvation—our salvation. The gospel brings the knowledge that we can attain eternal life through Jesus Christ, the Savior.

Now we see that within the message about “the everlasting gospel” is specific mention of the events of Revelation 13. So it follows that those events—the creation of the beast’s image, the economic sanctions, the death threat, the beast’s mark—must have something to do with our salvation.

Worshiping the beast and his image and receiving his mark aren’t just some random forebodings. They indicate who will be lost in the final judgment. The final judgment splits people into two groups: The saved will inherit eternal life, which is the ultimate fulfillment of the gospel; the lost will receive eternal death, the opposite of salvation.

Of course, those with the mark of the beast represent only a contingent of the lost. The mark of the beast and the seal of God are placed only on those alive at that time, after America becomes a religiopolitical power and a Sunday law is passed around the globe. What the beast’s mark and God’s seal reveal, however, is the law by which every human being is judged. You can’t have a judgment without parameters. You are not saved by the law of God, but you are judged by it.

The first angel delineates the full actualization of a person who allows the Holy Spirit to restore the image of Christ within him or her. The character of that person indicates his reward in the judgment: He will follow God’s law completely and will be saved.

Likewise, the third angel’s message shows the full actualization of a person who allows the devil’s image to be recreated in him or her: That person will follow the beast’s law instead and be lost. In these final events is depicted the great controversy between Christ and Satan. The character of either one or the other will be fully reproduced in the people of Earth.

My Savior, create in me a clean heart so that I will be fully restored in Your image and represent Your character to the world.

KEY BIBLE TEXTS
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, Revelation 14:9
