They went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
—  Luke 5:19

Thought Of The Day...
Large crowds were following Jesus wherever he went. People were hungry for his teaching. Many people came mainly to see his miracles or to ask for one for themselves.
Hope for healing could be huge for people who had no medical care. We can imagine the paralyzed man living without hope, until he heard about Jesus the miracle worker. Some neighbors got together and carried this man to Jesus.
When they arrived and saw that they could not get into the house because the crowd was so big, they hoisted their friend to the roof and lowered him “right in front of Jesus.”
Jesus did not disappoint. First he met the man’s deepest spiritual need, forgiving his sins. Then Jesus met the man’s physical need, making him able to walk again. The man “went home praising God.”
About seven years ago, a dear colleague was hospitalized with terminal cancer. Inspired by this story, four of us who were friends of his met him in his room, wheeled him out to a patio, and shared Scripture and prayer with him in the presence of Jesus.
Jesus did not heal his cancer that day. But Jesus had already forgiven our friend’s sins. And some weeks later, our friend “went home praising God” for all eternity.

Prayer...

Heavenly Father, we come to you with heavy hearts, knowing that there are many in our community who are in need of your love and provision. Lord, in Luke 5:19, we see Jesus showing compassion to the paralyzed man and how his friends had faith that he could be healed. Father, we pray that you would instill that same faith in us, to believe that you can do the impossible in the lives of those around us.

We ask for your guidance and wisdom as we come across our neighbors who are struggling. May we be vessels of your love and kindness, extending a helping hand and offering words of comfort. And as we pray with those in need, may they experience your presence and the power of your name, Jesus.

Lord, remind us that we are not alone in this journey of helping and supporting our neighbors. You are with us every step of the way, guiding our actions and providing for their needs. Help us to be your hands and feet, bringing hope and healing to those who are hurting.

We trust in your goodness and faithfulness, knowing that you will work miracles in the lives of those we pray for. Thank you for hearing our prayers and for the privilege of being your ambassadors of love and grace. We ask that you fill our hearts with compassion and our minds with discernment, enabling us to understand the unique struggles each person faces. Give us the courage to reach out, to listen, and to offer support without judgment.

May your Holy Spirit empower us to speak words of encouragement and to act with kindness, reflecting your love in all we do. Let our actions be a testament to your light, shining brightly in the darkness of despair.

As we come together as a community, unite us in purpose and strengthen our bonds, so that together we may uplift those in need. Help us to remember that every small act of love can lead to significant change.

We lift up our prayers to you, trusting that you are working behind the scenes, moving hearts and providing for every need. May our faith remain steadfast, and may we always be reminded of the hope we have in you.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
