𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗻 — 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁

Back in Senior One or Two, I had a strange habit—I didn’t like showering on Fridays. Teenagers being teenagers, it became public knowledge.

Fast forward to adulthood—clean socks, boyfriend responsibilities and growth — yet someone from the past still asked me,
“𝘚𝘰, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺?”

Really?

Some people hold on to your past like it’s a birthmark.

Our society is like a memory vault—people keep emotional receipts, screenshots, even body odour allegations from high school.

It reminded me of Acts 9, where Saul, murderer of Christians has a divine encounter and becomes Paul, the apostle. But even then, people weren’t convinced. Ananias said,
“𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥, 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘯, 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮 𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘑𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘮.”
— 𝘈𝘤𝘵𝘴 9:13 (𝘕𝘒𝘑𝘝)
Translation: “Are You for real? That one is a murderer.”

Saul had changed, but people still saw him as Saul.

In Uganda, once drama is attached to your name, it sticks. You could be leading prayer meetings, tithing, or drinking aloevera juice, and someone will still say, “But didn’t he…?”

Here’s the truth:
If your change is real, let your character prove it.
Not everyone will believe it. Some won’t come around—not because you haven’t changed, but because they haven’t. And that’s okay.
Transformation is proven through consistency. Show up in your new self again and again until your new you becomes undeniable.
Let your “Paul” speak. The one who has grown, healed, and yes—showers daily now.

Keep going.
Your fruit will speak.
Let me even go and shower for the third time today.
