Be careful not to allow your ministry towards others to be based on sentiment. It MUST be grounded in truth! The church (as Scripture teaches) is the pillar and ground of the truth. Sentiment just won't cut it, folks.

For sentiment is derived from subjectivism, not the wisdom of an objective perspective based on receiving the revealed Word of God.

Many believers like to quote Psalm 119:105, which says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path". But what good is that light if you cut it off from others? Yet, that's exactly what you are doing if you shirk away from having your work of ministry void of the Word of God, but riddled with useless, idle words of sentimentality. You are shutting the light off for anyone else who may come after you.

"[13] You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

[14] You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. [15] Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. [16] Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."
~~Matthew 5:13-16~~

Your light-bearing is not just in your conduct as a believer, but most importantly in preaching the truth that you live by (rightly dividing the Word of Truth). And it certainly is not merely in one's sentiment. For the world itself can be very passionate and convicted about its own ways, so then in that regard what makes you differ from them?

The difference should be THE WORD OF TRUTH, that's what!

Not only that, but sentimentality leads people away from the truth, not towards it. It clouds the judgment with emotionalism, and experientialism among other things. It moves people away from objectivity to subjectivity; and furthermore, towards convincing oneself that their feelings, opinions, ideas, and natural proclivities are what is truth, even above God's Word. Yikes!

Being heralds of God's Word is equally as important as being doers of God's Word. to come bearing God's Word is to give light to others, but sentiment is like giving someone a wet match, or even tying a blindfold over their eyes, and putting plugs in their ears.

And unfortunately, sentimental people are often to most "seemingly" passionate people, and consequently the most boisterous, often feeding into the ignorance of other people's vain sentimentalities. And this is why the false teacher so easily, and successfully deceives so many; for most are (sadly) not of the truth, nor seeking it, but rather looking for sentimentalities that might match their own.

But those who proclaim they are of the truth should definitely not be a party to dousing the flames of truth that can light the way for others. For only the Word of God has the power to bring people from the darkness to the light! As the scriptures say, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Rom. 10:17). Folks, preaching the Word is not just for pastors, it is for the whole of the church! Selah

It's better to speak of God as with the oracles of God, than to speak of Him based on mere sentiments and risk casting oneself into the category of "false teachers/preachers".

"The entrance of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple."
~~Psalm 119:130~~

"[14] How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? [15] And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Gospel of Peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!' "
~~Romans 10:14-15~~

God doesn't send us out to make disciples of all nations with sentimentality, He sends us out with His WORD! Selah
