Free Indeed
“If the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
JOHN 8:36
Jesus Christ is the Great Emancipator. He came to set us free—not necessarily from political or military tyranny, though that is sometimes the case—but from the far worse grip of sin and its everlasting destruction. When you embrace Christ as your Savior and Lord, you are liberated immediately from the penalty of sin—eternal death. But that’s only the beginning. Christ also came to unshackle you from sin’s power, which still enslaves your emotions, will, and personality.
This is because true freedom is spiritual. The oppression we experience due to sin cannot be medicated, fought off, or legislated into submission, because earthly measures cannot touch it. Instead, this liberty can be received only as a gift from God. And it makes all the difference in the world wherever you are—whether with political autonomy or behind barbed-wire walls, at home or within a prison camp, in success or while enduring injustice. Christ’s freedom in you cannot be stifled, regulated, or executed. His is the ultimate emancipation.
Jesus wants you to experience the most wonderful life you can imagine—His life expressed through you. So refocus your quest for liberty on Him, and you will be free indeed.
Jesus, thank You for truly setting me free. Lead me into the fullness of Your liberty. Amen.
