Christ alone is the chosen and sufficient agent in "reconciliation" (cf Rom 5:10; 2 Cor 5:18; Eph 2:16; Col 1:20). By the cross alone, "God was IN Christ reconciling the world unto Himself " (2 Corinthians 5:19). Paul makes reference to us who were once enemies of God, but are now reconciled to Him by the death of His Son, much more, being RECONCILED, we shall be saved by His life "(Romans 5:10). To reconcile is to remove enmity between two parties. Since the sinner cannot do this for himself God does it through Jesus Christ in His sacrificial death (cf Romans 5:6-10). It was there at Calvary Hill God did something about our sins (cf Romans 3:23-26; Hebrews 10:5-17;1 John 1:7-2:1-2; 4:9-10). Here is the good news of the Gospel. In 2 Corinthians 5:19 God inputes not iniquity, here He imputes it to the Spotless Lamb of God Jesus Christ (cf Isaiah 53:6-11; John and 1:29; 1 Peter 1:19). " Not imputing their trespasses unto them" (cf 2 Cor 5:19). Not to impute is to forgive all of our trespasses (see Romans 4:5-8).
