No Greater Danger to the Christian Church
By Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“There is no greater danger to the Christian Church and Christ’s message of salvation than false teaching. Listen carefully to what the Apostle Paul says: “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (Gal. 1:8).

The Apostle Paul here silences any tendency to say: ‘It doesn’t matter what these people believe as long as they believe in Jesus.’ Not at all, there is a definite intolerance here teaches the apostle.

The test of truth is that it conforms to the apostolic message which alone comes with the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. The Apostle Paul said: “But I make known to you, brethren that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ” (Gal. 1:11-12).

The New Testament claims that the gospel comes with the absolute authority of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, who gave it to these apostles to preach and to cause it to be written. Here in the New Testament is the only standard. And it is still the only standard.
False teaching may contain less than the apostolic gospel or it might be guilty of adding to the truth of the gospel. This was the problem in the church at Galatia where false teachers were teaching it was the gospel plus circumcision.

By adding anything to the simple gospel message is a denial of the gospel.
That is why false teachings that try to insist on adding something to the gospel is so terrible.

They are denying that the finished work of Christ on the Cross is sufficient. There are many false teachings similar to this at the present time.

By adding anything to the gospel, the false teaching is really saying that Christ Himself and His death is not sufficient. It is a denial of the faith.”
