A man’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor.
PROVERBS 29:23
Would you like to impress God? If so, you may think that to do so, you’ll have to give more money, serve a lot of people, pray several hours a day, and attend many Bible studies. Those are the activities we often engage in to earn His love, even though He already cares for us unconditionally. However, there is a virtue revealed in Scripture that truly moves the Lord’s heart. Indeed, it is the key to answered prayer. What is that powerful characteristic? Humility.
The Lord tells us, “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word” (Isaiah 66:2 NIV). God is not looking for men and women who possess superior intelligence, affluence, or acumen. He’s searching for those rare Christians who exalt Jesus with everything they are because they honor Him as the King of kings and Lord of lords. So if you really want Him to bless you with His favor and use you for His kingdom, stop trying so hard in your own strength. Instead, humble yourself before Him, admit your inadequacy, acknowledge His authority, and submit to His wisdom. His power flows to those who lean heaviest on Him.
Jesus, I humble myself before You and devote all I am to You. Amen.
