TUESDAY, 08 JULY 2025 YOUR SPIRIT AND THE SPIRIT OF GOD For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day - 2 Corinthians 4:16 You have an inward man and an outward man. Your outward man is your body with his five physical senses. It’s the man we can see with the naked eye. Your inward man is your spirit. It’s what the scriptures refer to as the inner man. 1 Peter 3:4 says, ‘But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.’ Your spirit is referred to as the hidden man of the heart because he’s unseen. Your spirit is invisible. Your spirit is the real you. You were created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, like God, you’re a spirit. You’re a spirit, you possess a soul, and you dwell inside your body. Your soul is your mind, your will, and your emotions. The hidden man of the heart refers to your spirit, since when the bible speaks of your heart, it’s not referring to your physical heart that pumps your blood, but rather your spirit. Ezekiel 36:26 says, ‘A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.’ At the new birth, it’s our spirits that were born again. God removed the heart of stone or our spirits that were hardened by sin, and gave us a heart of flesh, or a spirit that’s supple towards Him. Your spirit is where God dwells. Your spirit man is from where God leads and guides you. Your spirit is the real you. It’s the real man that God seeks to fellowship with. Romans 8:14 says, ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.’ The word ‘sons’ in this context means ‘mature, trained, and brought up sons of God. Even though we’re all the sons of God by birth, however, we’re not all mature, we’re not all led by the Holy Ghost. Some Christians are still babes in the things of God. They’re still led by their flesh. They live their lives based on the dictates of their outward man. To them, it’s good not because the word of God says it is, but it’s good because it looks good, it sounds good, tastes good, it smells good, or it feels good. If their body tells them to eat, they eat. If it tells them to sleep, they sleep. If it tells them to fornicate, they fornicate. They’re men and women of the senses. Mature sons of God walk by faith in God’s word and not sight, or any of the five physical senses of the outward man. Mature sons of God are not moved by what they see, or what they hear, or how they feel. They’re moved only by what they believe, and they believe the word of God. It doesn’t matter what their senses tell them, if what their senses tell them doesn’t line up with God’s word, they reject it and go with God’s word. This is what it means to be led by the Spirit of God. That’s why it’s so important to know the word of God. The more of God’s word your spirit knows, the easier it will be for the Spirit of God to lead you. The more you mature, the easier it will be for you to walk in the fulness of your inheritance as a child of God. Glory to God! CONFESSION I’m led by the Spirit of God and not my senses.
