AMEN -- (SO BE IT!)
While one short book cannot exhaust the mystery of salvation, salvation for me remains multi-dimensional. It is worldly and otherworldly, personal and communal, and communicates God's great love for creation. Understanding salvation as the fulfillment of the Lord's Prayer in this world.
While Jesus Christ is the way of salvation, the Lord's Prayer provides the instruction manual or map for this "way". Christians are blessed with a tour guide who drew the map: Jesus Christ.
We also have another advocate who helps us along this journey: the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit continues God's work to save all people. The Spirit helps people us to fulfil the petitions of the Lord's Prayer in our daily lives. The Holy Spirit sanctifies us and leads us to health and fulfilment. God the Father parents us through the work of Jesus Christ and the action of the Holy Spirit.
Can the Lord's Prayer assist Christians in their study and reflection of what it means to be saved? I believe the answer is YES. Christians are called to be signs of salvation of the world. The fulfilment of the Lord's Prayer in the Body of Christ will serve to bring about the completion of salvation. Thus, when we fulfil the Lord's Prayer in our communities, we will help to liberate and inspire others.
The Lord's Prayer offers hope and consolation to those in need. Only by following God's will can we find true fulfilment and comfort, for following Gods will brings grace or divine assistance. Ignoring God's will leads to pain, guilt, disappointment, and fear. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are the key to growth.
Our faith should transform us, but transformation takes time. We are called to be patient with ourselves and others. God's plan unfolds in small doses, with teachings and lessons we can receive when we are ready.
God helps us to see ourselves as we are, and Jesus helps us to see ourselves as we should be: saved and free.
PRAY, IN THIS WAY:
Our Father in heaven, hear our cry for salvation.
Hallowed be your name; may we always remember to praise you.
Your kingdom come, so that we may be fulfilled.
Your will be done, not mine, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread so that our basic needs can be met.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors, so that we can be made well.
And do not bring us to the time of trial so that we can resist unfulfilling habits and thoughts.
But rescue us from the evil one so that we may be free to love, without fear, pride, or anxiety.
AMEN!!!
