“Where Have You Come From?”
Scripture
> “And He said, ‘Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?’ She said, ‘I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.’”
— Genesis 16:8 (NKJV)
“God Meets You in the Wilderness”
Hagar was running. Hurt. Rejected. Pregnant. Alone.
After being mistreated by Sarai, she fled into the wilderness—likely feeling forgotten by everyone, maybe even God. But God saw her. And He didn’t just appear—He called her by name and asked two questions that pierced straight into her soul:
> “Where have you come from, and where are you going?”
God wasn’t asking for information. He was inviting Hagar to reflect, to see her story through His eyes. He met her in her pain—not with condemnation, but with compassion.
This same God still meets us in our wilderness moments. When life feels unfair, when we feel rejected or uncertain, He asks:
“Where have you come from—and where are you going?”
Not to shame us, but to redirect us, to remind us that our story isn’t over, and to lead us back to purpose.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I running from something painful instead of facing it with God?
2. How has God met me in past wilderness moments?
3. What might God be trying to show or teach me right now?
Prayer
God who sees me, thank You for meeting me in the wilderness. Even when I feel invisible or overwhelmed, You call me by name. Help me not to run from pain but to walk through it with You. Speak to my heart and lead me forward with grace and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen
