“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28
Thought Of The Day...
Do you ever feel utterly drained? While health experts often recommend strategies like maintaining a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and ensuring sufficient sleep—typically seven to eight hours for most, and sometimes more for others—this guidance is not the only solution. Jesus offers us a deeper, more profound rest.
He provides a form of spiritual rest that isn't acknowledged by conventional health advice. As the Creator of all things, Jesus understands us intimately—our weaknesses, struggles, and burdens. He knows what burdens our hearts and exhausts our spirits, and he recognizes the specific rest we truly need. A good sleep routine, no matter how effective, will not fulfill our spiritual needs; only Jesus can offer the deep, soul-level rest we seek.
Jesus invites those who feel overwhelmed by life's demands to come to him. He encourages us to find our grounding in him and to follow his lead each day. While he doesn't guarantee an easy journey, he promises to be “gentle and humble in heart”—and it is through him that we can discover true rest for our souls.
Prayer...
Gracious and Merciful God, We come before you with weary souls, burdened by the troubles of this world. But we are reminded of the words of your Son, Jesus, that in you we can find rest.
Lord, you know the weight that we carry and the struggles that we face. And yet, you call us to come to you and lay down our burdens. We trust in your promise to give us rest and we humbly ask for your strength and peace to sustain us.
You are the source of all comfort and the giver of true rest. We confess that we often look for rest in the wrong places, seeking temporary satisfaction instead of seeking you. Forgive us, Lord, and guide us to your loving arms where we can find true peace.
Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, we thank you for bearing our burdens on the cross and paving the way to eternal rest in your kingdom. May we always find our rest in you and may your grace and love sustain us through every trial.
We pray all of this in your holy name, Jesus. Amen.
