YOUR SPIRIT HAS A VOICE

I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost - Romans 9:1

You are a spirit, you possess a soul, and you live in a physical body. Your spirit is the real you. When the Holy Spirit leads you, He doesn’t lead your soul or your body. He leads your spirit. However, your spirit has a voice, it’s called the conscience. Some call it intuition, an inner voice, a sixth sense. The scriptures call it the conscience. Your conscience is the part of your spirit that the Holy Spirit bears witness with. When you’re about to do something wrong and there’s a check in your spirit, that’s the Holy Spirit bearing witness with your spirit that the thing you’re about to do is against the will of God. Hebrews 9:9 says, ‘This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.’ It’s in your conscience where you sense guilt or peace. When you sin against God, it’s your conscience that will bear witness with the Spirit that you’ve done something wrong. You’ll feel conviction in your spirit. And when you’ve confessed that sin and God has forgiven it, your conscience will sense peace, and guilt will leave your spirit.

1 Corinthians 4:4 says, ‘My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.’ Having said that, your conscience can be wrong. Your conscience is not God. There are people who can commit murder with a clear conscience, commit adultery with a clear conscience, lie with a clear conscience, and do many sinful things and their conscience will not experience guilt whatsoever. There will be no conviction in their spirit at all. 1 Timothy 4:2 says, ‘Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.’ The conscience can be seared. It can be corrupted by repeated episodes of disobedience. The more we ignore the ministry of the Holy Spirit in our lives, the more our consciences get seared. And when God speaks to us, we can’t hear Him. This is very dangerous because in that condition, many believe that God is fine with their sin just because He’s silent about it.

That’s why your spirit needs to know the word of God. The more of God’s word your spirit knows, the easier it will be for your conscience to recognise the voice of the Holy Spirit. Colossians 3:16 says, ‘Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.’ Let the word of Christ dwell in your spirit richly. Spend time in God’s word. Spend time reading it, studying it, meditating on it, praying it, confessing it, teaching it, preaching it, and singing it. As the word of God dwells in you richly, your spirit will gain the necessary mastery over your soul and your body. That’s why next time you sense that check in your spirit, you must follow the leading of the Spirit. He’s guiding you into all truth. He’s guiding you into a life of favour, victory, progress, and success. He doesn’t want to see you fail. He wants you to fulfil your destiny in Christ. That’s why God sent His Spirit into your life. Learn to co-operate with Him, and you will never taste defeat again. Glory to God!

CONFESSION

I live a life of victory, progress, and success because I listen to the voice of my spirit, because I’m led by the Holy Spirit. Glory to God!
