The Birth of Apostolic Ministry: A Call to Separation
July 12,2025
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” - Acts 13:2
Read Acts 16:6-10
In the early Christian church, Barnabas and Saul were serving among the believers in Antioch. As they prayed and fasted together, the Holy Spirit spoke, saying, "Separate for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." This marked the beginning of the apostolic ministry, distinct from the twelve apostles chosen by Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit initiated this work, choosing His own apostles to labor alongside Him. The separation was a confirmation of the work the Lord had already called them to do. Their commissioning was an acknowledgment of their special assignment, beyond their local ministry in Antioch.
The work of the Lord begins with separation to the Holy Spirit, where He guides and directs believers. As seen in Acts, the Holy Spirit's authority is evident in His guidance, even restraining Paul from entering certain cities.
A Call to Return to the Holy Spirit
How have you started your journey with the Holy Spirit, only to become entangled in worldly elements? How have you begun with faith, only to turn to practices like voodoo, juju, or acupuncture?
The Holy Spirit is saying, "Separate yourselves for me." It's time to retrace your steps and return to the One who called you.
