The miracle of resurrection is one of the greatest mighty works that any man can receive. It’s turning of death to life, bringing hope into a place of total hopelessness.
In the Scripture, there are ten recorded instances of resurrection of dead human beings. Three of them happened in the Old Testament and seven in the New Testament. Let me briefly give you the list below:
1. The son of the widow of Zarephath. The boy died and was raised to life by Elijah the prophet. (1 Kings 17: 17- 24)
2. The dead son of the Shunammite woman was brought back to life by Prophet Elisha. (2 Kings 4: 18-35)
3. An unnamed dead man rose from dead when his corpse was cast into the tomb of Elisha. He was raised the moment his dead body touched Elisha’s bones. (2 Kings 13: 20-22)
4. The daughter of Jairus was raised by Jesus Christ in Matthew 9: 23 - 26.
5. The only son of the widow of Nain was raised by Jesus Christ. (Luke 7: 11 - 18)
6. Lazarus was four days dead and buried. He was raised by Jesus. (John 11: 34 - 44)
7. After the resurrection of Christ, the graves were opened and many bodies of the saints rose from dead. (Matthew 27: 52 - 53)
8. A woman called Tabitha (Dorcas) died and was raised to life by Peter. (Acts 9: 36 - 42)
9. The young man named Eutychus fell from widow while listening to Paul preached. Apostle Paul went down and raised him back to life. (Acts 20: 9 - 12)
10. Jesus Christ died and was buried. By the power of the Spirit He was resurrected on the third day. This remains the most glorious of all cases of resurrection. (John 20: 1-10).
The lessons for us here are two:
One, the mighty power that raised the dead is still available and active.
Two, anything that's dead can be raised back to life by the power of resurrection. Yes, dead human life, destiny, health, family, relationship, finances, community, situation, ministry, and career, among others, can be raised to life.
