Jeremiah 9:23-26 In Detail From NASB Key Word/NKJV Thompson to NKJV Thompson Part 1
Jeremiah 9:23 Thus says the LORD; "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
Ecclesiastics 9:11 I returned and saw under the sun that-- The race is not to the swift, Nor the battle to the strong, Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.
Isaiah 47:10-11 "For you have trusted in your wickedness; You have said. 'No one sees me'; Your wisdom and your knowledge have warped you; And you have said in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one else besides me.'
Therefore evil shall come upon you; You shall not know from where it arises. And trouble shall fall upon you; You will not be able to put it off. And desolation shall come upon you suddenly, Which you shall not know.
Ezekiel 24:25-27 'And you, son of man--will it not be in the day when I take from them their stronghold, their joy and their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which they set their minds, their sons and their daughters;
'on that day one who escapes will come to you to let you hear it with your ears;
'on that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you shall speak and no longer be mute. Thus you will be a sign to them, and they shall know that I am the LORD.'"
Proclamation Against the King of Tyre
God's judgment of Tyre and of Sidon.
Ezekiel 28:1-8 The word of the LORD came to me again, saying,
"Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord GOD: "Because your heart is lifted up, And you say, 'I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods, In the midst of the seas,' Yet you are a man, and not a god, Though you set your heart as the heart of a god
(Behold, you are wiser than Daniel! There is no secret that can be hidden from you!
With your wisdom and your understanding You have gained riches for yourself, And gathered gold and silver into your treasures;
By your great wisdom in trade you have increased your riches, And your heart is lifted up because of your riches),"
"Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have set your heart as the heart of a god,
Behold, therefore, I will bring strangers against you, The most terrible of the nations; And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, And defile your splendor.
They shall throw you down into the Pit, And you shall die the death of the slain In the midst of the seas.
1 Kings 20:10-12 Then Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if enough dust is left of Samaria for a handful for each of the people who follow me."
So the king of Israel answered and said, "Tell him, Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.'"
And it happened when Ben-Hadad heard this message, as he and the kings were drinking at the command post, that he said to his servants, "Get ready." And they got ready to attack the city.
Isaiah 10:8-14 For he says, 'Are not my princes altogether kings"
Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?
As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
As I have done to Samaria and her idols, Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?'"
Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, "I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks."
For he says; "By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man.
My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people, And as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; And there was no one who moved his wing, Nor opened his mouth with even a peep."
Job 31:24-28 "If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine gold, 'You are my confidence':
If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gained much;
If I have observed the sun when it shines, Or the moon moving in brightness,
So that my heart has been secretly enticed, And my mouth has kissed my hand;
This also would be an iniquity deserving of judgment, For I would have denied God who is above.
